Title: 1:1 scale r/c ship
Post by: Brian60 on June 02, 2017, 03:57:56 pm
Searching Google earlier for some details and I came across this. Its under development by Rolls Royce, a full scale radio controlled ship, the captain stays on shore and controls it like a giant toy %%

The story was 3 years old so it might have progressed many fold or it may have been dropped by now....

Not sure about that, but we will need a shed load of filler to make one of them 'sausage ships'!

If it is anything like the agricultural world then insurers will insist there be a person onboard to take over should the telemetry go wibbly.

The US farming industry uses lots of self driving tractors but they still have a 'driver' to prevent the tractor from just driving off into the sunset because the GPS guidance or field mapping system decided it wanted to be a George Forman Grill.

The future, they cut the staffing levels, bridge officers cut, engineers cut until you have unmanned engine rooms. There is still talk of unmanned ships circulating on the rumour mill. nemesis
