Hi Guys
I bid for this boat on Gumtree( a spin off of EBay) and got it for $200 AU.
It arrives tomorrow.
From the photos it is an unfinished project with a crap paint job and radio, a hole in the deck, but, as the servos have not been connected and unstarted Merco 40 Marine Motor is installed.
Two props, starter and power panel for the glow plug, also a box of fittings and plan.
I know it requires a bit of work and replace the IC motor with a good brushless motor.
So it's another boat project !!!
-
Sorry Guys
Missed adding the pics.
-
Looks like an interesting restoration project :-))

Hi All
The Boat arrived today, a bit better than I thought!!!
The drive line is not fully installed so that is good because I will replace it all.
The rudder is to small, so again a replacement.
Removed the radio box as it was hitting on the exhaust pipe.
Three plastic props a 4554 (45mm x 1.2 pitch), a 4563(45 x 1.4 pitch) and one on the boat which looks bigger.
No windscreen or mast, missing fairleads, anchor, lifebuoys, steering wheel, horns etc.
No decals and the white window frames( a few will require replacing).
The crew are all over it !!!

You sticking with the I/C motor ?
Read my 'fantasy Huntress ' post, I used the Precedent H31 hull as a base & an inrunner motor + LIPO (eventually) never did correct the bows down stance when not moving . . .

Hi Imsinking
The IC Merco 40 is being replaced with a 3648-1450kv brushless, 3 or 4S 5800mah Lipo, 100Amp Car ESC (all in the spare parts box).
This is a Precedent 31 boat also!!!
The bow down is that the battery requires moving back.

Hi All
Busy day removing IC motor and exhaust pipe.
The timber was a piece of deck planking hard wood !!!
A few hours removing all the glue, what a lovely job( I don't think).
The blue piece of wood towards the stern removed.
This was a piece of rough saw fence paling !!!!
That was the easy job.
Removed the rudder and found one in the rudder box same width(30mm) but longer(45mm as to 57mm).
The crew are onto the hole in the bow.
The boat stand did not have the right shape for the boat, so use an idea from one of the forums.
A piece of wire (old wire coat hanger) I got the shape and squared it up on the stand and cutout a better shape with the jigsaw.
Added some foam tape and done, well I may make a better one later.

Moving the battery back didn't help just made the stern squat down more , I think I've made the superstructure too heavy , just live with it . . .
Your doing what I did by the look of it, tho' I took out ALL the interior frames as the deck looked dubiously attached , turned out to be correct . . .
Are you moving the propshaft further back to the stern ? It gives you a shallower angle if you do , I worked on a basis of a 50mm dia prop max , & worked out the clearances from that . . .
Check out my other (mutilation) of a 1976 swordsman . . .

Rather than clog up your posting (you'll lose track of where you are ) just PM me & I'll reply there . . .

Hi All
Trimmed up the cutoff frames(if you can them cutoff), the hole in the forward deck has been repaired.
The forward and stern decks the paint has been removed.
I raised the deck water rails forward and stern to match the sides.

Hi All
Stripped down the cabin, removed hatches, doors, windows and the cockpit floor and seats.
Removed a lot of the blue paint.

Hi All
Installed the motor mount, drive line with a 50mm prop with 4mm clearance.
Only going to use a 40mm prop and going back to using the original rudder, but I added 2mm long bit of silicone fuel tube at the bottom of the shaft and 3mm bit at the top under the tiller arm.
If the tiller arm drops of, I do not lose the rudder !!!

Hi All
Added strengthening timber around the aft window and the forward window which had a gap at the bottom to the deck.
A bit of filler and sand fixed the forward window area.
Will have to replace the bottom of the cabin side windows as I broke these.
I replaced one of the aft cabin side ones which I also broke.
That was not one of my good days!!!

Hi All
As the gap under the aft window was like the forward window, I laid down two layers or masking tape on the deck and combings.
Mixed up some Selley's Plasti-bond and covered plywood strengther and pushed the cabin down onto the deck.
Trim back the extra and left to harden.

Hi All

Hi Capt Podge and all
Well a bit of a snowball day, I was only going to ballast test the boat to see about placement of the battery.
But the guys at the club said to give it a run!!
So with no cabin(topless) the first run showed up the battery was to far astern.
I moved the battery forward and on the second run the boat was nice and level.
Turning was quick, but, in a nice controlled way.
Only running the 3648-1450kv on 3S with 100Amp ESC and 2 blade 40mm prop.
My mate is running the same setup in a MFA Spearfish but on 4S.
We Amp check it on run speed in the boat at 72.88 Amps!!!
Canabus
-
When you fit the cabin that will change the CG & the battery could need moving again . . .
WOW :o 72 amp's , flat out . . . my huntress & swordsman only peak at 16 amps on a 3c 11.1 lipo I run 20 amp fuse protection with all the plastic bags that find their way into our lake . . . .
Bill
-
Hi imsinking
Totally right about the CG moving with the cabin on as the windscreen is a big spoiler.
The 72 Amps in the Spearfish with the speed it's going at I was not surprised!!!
It's a rocket and it turns very nicely!!
I had my drive of the boat today and I am totally impressed with the boat in calm water and in choppy water.
I am hoping the Huntsman is up the mark.

I never drive faster than by angel can fly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All
A few weeks of work making a mould for the windscreen.
Made the two halves using a heat gun to mould the plastic into shape.
Canabus
-
Well, that method certainly looks to be a good way to go - as a bonus, if you keep the mould stored away safely, you'll always have a means to make a replacement, should the original suffer any damage over time - well done !
Regards,
Ray.
-
Very swarve , think about some strap downs for it , thin stainless strips will do it , I used the stiffening strips from a Bosch wiper blade , the plastic will come loose in time , vibration , knocking about etc,the plastic alone is too thin an edge to be permanent . . . .
Bill
-
That looks brilliant and so realistic. I salute your efforts in creating a complicated shape and hope you find a way to keep it on the boat as I would hate for it to pop off like Bill suggested.
-
Hi All
Fixing the windscreen to the boat is no problem, I use super glue gel, but, you only get one shot at it, so think, plan and hold down for three times the drying time !!!
This beast, the half windscreen is 280mm long and I up the game by adding .25mm frames in one piece !!!
In for a penny, in for a pound !!!!
I also made all the window frame with the same white styrene plastic, that was the part.
I was planning to make the windscreen in dark plastic today, but, 27 degrees I was not firing up the mother-in-law( the heat gun) !!!
That was this morning and in the afternoon the temperature drop and we go a rain storm !!!
Yesterday was 29!!!!

Hi All
A bit busy as I have been working on my mate's MFA Spearfish as he was not very well.
As the go to guy in the club, time for a bit for replay.
The boat is going like a steam train, but, at about 40KPH !!!
Back to my boat, windows done, stern ladder done, handrails ready to go, cockpit done, out trim on the windscreen done and no the windscreen is not on !!!
I ran the boat at the weekend and total the rudder!!!
My go to club mate made me a new stainless steel one!!!

Ouch! It must have been going some speed to do that damage - or perhaps the "driver" was distracted? %)
The replacement looks the business O0
...and your overall build is coming along nicely. :-))

Ray.
