Title: Parallel to series large lipo
Post by: Mustang on September 15, 2017, 01:36:32 pm
Advise please...can I connect 2 x10000 mah lipo in parallel then connect them in series?
My aim is to run 2 large battery s to my 57 inch apache. ..runtime is more important to me
Than speed.....hope this makes sense as I am totally new to electric..after years being a petrol head😊

LiPo batteries can be very fussy about connecting Series or Parallel, I would have though, some sort of battery management board will be required.... anyone know of one?

Hi Mustang
With two Lipo's and other batteries it is one or the other, ONLY!!!

Parallel will give you the same voltage, but, turns your 10000mah into 20000mah(longer run time).

Series will double your voltage, but, at only 10000mah(half the run time of parallel setup but dam fast).

Do you mean to have two batteries and a switch to go from parallel to series?  If so, it can be done, but there is a bucketful of precautions to take to avoid a costly error that would at best break a battery, or, on the way to "at worse", destroy the boat.  If you need to ask, the safe answer is NO.  There is a lot of energy stored in a pair of 10AH batteries, you really don't want to be anywhere near if it decides to all come out at once.

You can run two pairs of batteries each hooked in parallel then connect the two pairs together in series to double the voltage. It's actually the preferred set up when running 10s and higher but usually there isn't room for four batteries. But you didn't say what voltage the packs are 2s, 3s, 4s?
The kv of the motor x the voltage = rpm. You want to be about 30,000 rpm unloaded.
But 10c batteries might be good for a plane or helicopter but not enough for boats, you want at least 50c, 10c batteries do not provide enough amps under the loads of a boat and will puff pretty quickly.
