Title: Another New Magpie 90
Post by: magpie on June 02, 2006, 01:50:52 pm
I just finished yet another yacht! You guessed it, a Magpie 90!
In case you have nothing better to do, have a quick look at this brief build thread.
Jason? (Please note-These pics are hosted by 'imageshack' They're not hogging space on Martin's server)(http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/2906/17may22ms.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)
The hull I layed up a while ago for a buyer who changed his mind.
Here it?s getting the inwales fitted to attach the deck to.

Fitting the shaft and motor. What for you say? To push her when the wind has gone of course!

Camera fault! Fitting the woiks dat make her go!

Ballasting with melted lead in the sink.

Melting the lead on the stove.

Attaching the deck after having fitted the winch mounts, mast step etc.

Fairing her up ready for paint.

Testing her for trim etc with some sails I made earlier.

Painting the blue flake.

Masking the first side of flames to airbrush

(http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/1176/2mp22flames1mz.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)
I trace them with drafting film and transfer the shape to the other side.

(http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/8526/4mp22draftingfilmtrace8uj.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)
I cut through the film to mark the parafilm underneath and then remove the part where the paint will go.

Airbrushing the magpie insignia on the back deck. This new parafilm masking is excellent. It stretches to 4 times and then self adheres and cuts with a hobby knife through the drafting film I use to trace the designs. Love it!

The magie is on.

Masking the ?symbolic? windows with Parafilm.

All done!
