Title: Garnock Tug windlass pictures?
Post by: Subculture on October 03, 2017, 10:03:33 am
Hello,

Does anyone have any good close-up pictures of the Garnock tug windlass, preferably the 1:1 version or the caldercraft model?

You can always go up to the Scottish Maritime Museum at Irvine and see the real thing; well worth a general purpose visit in any case.

Okay thanks.

Bit of a haul from North London. Was hoping someone might have a good shot or two of the model version or better still the fullsize. I have a lot of reference on the boat, just that bit is a bit hazy.

I also lacked hull lines, but managed to carve out a small hull. The Caldercraft kit is long out of production.

Had a trip to Irvine for the Maritime Museum and was able to get some photos of Garnock. I have several of the windlass which I will post as soon as I can sort out the photos. All are taken from the port side and are mostly from the rear as it was not possible to see it from the front due to the height of the bow bulwarks. Access on deck is not allowed and I did need to get special permission to get close up to her as she is in a closed off area.

Here is the best I could manage with the limited access.
The windlass is possibly the part in best condition, I will probably post some pictures in the full size area showing just how bad it is.

Excellent, thanks.

Commercial fittings won't be any good, when you appreciate the size of the hull master.  :-)
