It would be great to get Steve there with AFOR, just hope the pool will be deep enough. I would love to see the talking swan there also,but I dont recall the operators name.The kids love it!

I am starting to push forward now with the organising of this years show. Although club booking forms have gone out some time ago there are still quite a number of clubs that have not got back to me so I will be chasing in the coming days. Any clubs wishing to come, now is your chance as space is filling up fast. Forms can be obtained from the show web site www.blackpoolmodelshow.co.uk or by contacting us directly by either e-mail to info@blackpoolmodelshow.co.uk or by phone on 01248 719353 (10:00am - 4:30pm Mon - Fri, answerphone outside of these times)
Looks like being a bumper year, it is anticipated that we will have at least another 7 displays over what was there is 2017 plus a couple of new traders.
The web site is getting a major re-vamp in the next couple of weeks too. Busy times.........

I have been requested to put on the Lifeboat Enthusiasts Society (L.B.E.S.) stand at this years show, as the usual members are not attending I have booked a number of tables, and if anyone would like to add their Lifeboat Model to our stand please get in touch with me? It will not be as elaborate a stand as normal, but the emphasis will be on displaying the different types of lifeboat, and chatting to anyone interested. We do have a goodly number of models already booked to show, but the more the merrier!

I have just arranged for another event I have to attend to be the same weekend, so that I can combine two trips up from sunny (today!) Dorset. Is there going to be a bring and buy Stall. I am looking to have a bit of a clear out and this would be a good place to start.

From what Iain has told me......I KNOW this for a FACT that there are over 30 clubs allready booked in,and there are more clubs in the pipeline as well !!!!!!!!

Re Parking at the Norbreck for the Blackpool Model Show.Some of you may be aware that the car park at the Norbreck is no longer a free car park, however, after a fair bit of negotiating with the hotel I have worked out a way that it will be FREE for all who attend the show. So if you hear anyone winging about parking charges please put them straight.

Totally agree with Colin ,people can make there own minds up what they do with there time and should not feel pressured into anything ,after all it's our hobby not a job that we need to commit to .

To be honest I really do not understand why people run this show down so much! Over the last couple of years, it has improved so very much, over what it was. Person I have been going to it for at least 10 years, travelling all the way up from Cornwall, and really think that it is now one of the very best. Sadly, because of distance, age, and expense, this will be my last visit, and I have been given the honour of organising the Model Lifeboat display, on behalf of the LBES.
Come and see for yourselves, a lot of people do, and go away very happy, with the displays, the traders, and everything else that goes into this great show.

Finally the new Blackpool Model Show web site is up & running (www.blackpoolmodelshow.co.uk) you can now also buy tickets on line. (you can still just pay on the door, but expect a queue first thing Saturday morning)
Note about parking:
Although there is now a camera controlled parking charge system at the Norbreck Castle Hotel, if you are coming to the show there is no chargeI have come to an "arrangement" with the hotel to secure free parking for all those involved in the show, this includes anyone setting up on the Friday as well as those visiting over the weekend. All you will need to do is give us your car registration number when you arrive, during the show time there will be a list of numbers at the entrance to the event, just add yours. Outside the show opening times you will need to come to the organisers' desk - see me or Dave (Stavros) Do not ask at the hotel reception, they will not be able to do this, also do not pay as we will not be able to get your payment refunded.
There are still a number of clubs, individual exhibitors & traders who said that they wanted to come to the show, but have yet to send in their paperwork. Anyone who is not showing on the web site has not sent in their paperwork. I am now working on the floor plan for the show so it is the last chance for anyone wanting to have a stand (trade or exhibit) to get the paperwork to me.

I am sure that Ian is wanting some sheckles pretty damn soon and I need to know how much. I spoke with Ian a few weeks ago to confirm that we will be there and that we will be very happy with the same stand space.

Apologies to one & all for the issues with the Blackpool Model Show web site. All would now appear to be functioning as it should, I have no doubt that someone will let me know if it doesn't!The new site is done on wordpress which is an application I have no prior experience with, so there was a bit of a learning curve, but it was necessary to bring the site up to date & also to get it more "mobile friendly" as we know that there are more & more people using phones & tablets to access the site & the old site really wasn't much cop with small screens.Anyway, should all be fine now (fingers crossed)

URGENT APPEAL
I HAVE been promising Mick French all year that I would help him set up and man the LBES stand at this, mick's last Blackpool show.
unfortunately this morning, I received a phone call from Blackpool Victoria Hospital to say that the xrays that were taken on my knee last Monday, after a fall on sunday night had been misdiagnosed slightly and although I do have tendon and ligament damage, they found today on re viewing my xrays that I have a fractured knee, and need to go tomorrow to the Fracture clinic at the hospital...
the problem being that I won't be able to help setting up the stand, but will be able to sit on my accienda for the weekend....
could I ask any members who are going to the show, especially on the Friday to help mick set up the stand for the lifeboats for the show, as I can't even manage a pair of crutches, never mind valuable model boats.

Thanks for letting us know Neil,and sorry to hear of your accident.I am sure everyone will join me in wishing you well,and that you are soon given something to ease the pain you must be going through.I promise not to tell everyone you tripped over your duvet,I will let them all picture that in their own minds :embarrassed: :embarrassed:
I am not anticipating too much work involved in setting up the display stand,the hardest part will be setting up the tables,so any help with that will be very much appreciated.The display will be to show off the models themselves,nothing fancy,just a video player and small television to play RNLI associated DVD,s.Margaret will be laying the cloths on the tables,with RNLI Flags around the edges.
Now I must put out an urgent appeal please? Neil has stated that he will be sitting while attending the show,so if someone could bring a rubber ring,preferably large size,for him to ease the pressure on his rear end,it would be appreciated.I'm sure he will be able to make it to the loo,when required,but there are trolley's in the hall we can use,and if a dire emergency,we will of course have buckets that can be used .. :-)) :-))
We have a good selection of models on display,and we can squeeze in a few more if anyone hasn't booked with me.
We are looking forward to a great show,with some laughs,and there is a rumour that we could be getting some cake!

I was at the Norbreck yesterday & was amazed to see the new floor they have put in, looks really good.

Well with 8 days to go to the show it is looking Darned good and what I believe to be the best yet with Clubs attending from Ireland and the Isle of man to name just 2,there are well over 25 Clubs displaying their models let alone a host of individual exhibitors,WHO or which club will take home the trophy for the Best stand....Time will tell.
Traders are also up in Attendance with some new ones as well.
The show guide for this year is at the Moment on it's way to the printers and I know today some of the show infastructure is winging it's way up to the Hall.
There will be refreshments available in the Ballroom provided by the Hotel....sandwiches tea coffe and a seating area for your wary feet !!
Also as a lot of you will already know this but there is a Chippy just at the back of the hotel the Norbreak Chippy which is situated at the end of the shops.
There is Also a cash Machine located in the same row of shops at the back of the Hotel.
Rumour has it this year we MIGHT be getting a visit form one of our Mayhemers showing his Wares....Ill reveal all when it come off......I if Memory serves me right our Illustious leader complete with his brightly coloured shirt's is attending.
I will obviously be there at the Hotel from Thursday aft ready for my night shift of marking the hall out ready for the lads form the clubs to place all the tables out on Fri Am ready for the onslaught of clubs and Traders to arrive.

If you FAIL to give your car registration at the show entrance and get a parking ticket the Show organisers will NOT BE HELD responsable and ALSO if you give us the incorrect car registration the same will apply.
All TRADERS and CLUBS should have given us their car and van registrations.....IF NOT see Me or Iain .
We will be during the day be taking the registrations to the hotel so they can be inputed into their system...we will be holding a copy of all car registrations.

Hats off to Ian and Dave, the show this year was absolutely superb great range of models on show, excellent selection of traders too. Had 3 generations of my family in attendance and hopefully we will be back next year. I know I'm biased but having the tanks and truckers there is great.

Been to 4 of the last 5 shows. This one was superb, outstanding models, together with the free carpark, the food was a reasonable price as was the drinks etc. Overall this show has to rank as top UK show. Missed Dave and our great leader, but those of you who did not go, you missed out big style

We had Boats,Tanks,Trucks,Static Dioramas and even a working Railway and a display of wooden models.
The Best club stand was the Manx club....well done...
Stav was dropped in the mire so to speak and had to do the announcemnt of the show winners etc did not expect that and WHO was it that dropped a real clanger and forgot one catagory Lord only knows how but Mick Fench I do humbly appologise for the Error

The Show went a long way in keeping my 12 year old son interested in modelling and hopefully spend more time with Dad building, sailing or driving our models and not sitting in front of an X-Box or similar electronic device...
We both found the show very interesting and found it hard to pull ourselves away to spend time in Blackpool with our family...

We handed the contents of our collection boxes on the LBES Stand to the ladies on the RNLI Stand which was around £35. So even more of a great achievement from the show. Well done to all.

This was my first visit to the Blackpool Show and I was extremely pleased with what I found. It's a long drive up from the south coast but as I had to be in Birmingham on Saturday I just pushed on north. An excellent display of boats and plenty of trade stands which provided what I wanted and some good advice. I found the model trucks very interesting and it was good to be able to talk to the Ribble Valley Club on a one to one basis, they were in no rush to let me go and gave me some good contacts and advice if I ever go down that route.
I may be up again in a year or two - but will definitely not be staying at the Norbreck.

This show is certainly one for the calendar next year. Lots of models to see a large pool for the model boat displays a village laid out for the tank boys and a truck track used also by the construction guys. The trade support was first class. I have enclosed just a few pictures from the event.

.............and another little statistic to throw in, the Bring n Buy raised £940.00 his year. We announced £936, but while that was going on, somebody bought something and upped the total a bit. The Lytham RNLI shop and the Blackpool RNLI station are now both £470 better off - I spent some time this afternoon calling round to hand the cheques over.
Many thanks due to Iain for letting us run the Bring n Buy, and all of the club members and friends who spent their weekend minding the stall. Also thanks to those who used some of their weekend minding the doors that could not be locked - sadly, there are those who do not see not paying their way as being detrimental to the show continuing. And special thanks to Karen from the Black Park club for helping me on Sunday morning with translating the competition forms into the winners list.

Fleetwood RNLI have never been interested in joining in from day one in 1997, Blackpool and Lytham always have. And it has always been the case that the show organiser gives them the stall space free of charge. It started when the show was run by Bernard Tullett of the BFMBC, after he retired for his 80th birthday present we managed to keep it that way while AMW were in charge, and Iain has shown himself happy to continue.
Nowadays, things are getting more crowded, which would you tell to not turn up if another station suddenly wanted to join in? At the moment, one runs a Tombola, the other a portable RNLI shop, so they don't compete.

We have just been notified that a car parking charge was issued to someone who was at the Blackpool Model Show - even though his registration number had been correctly recorded. I paid the hotel a significant amount of money to give free parking for all those involved with, or attending the show (so much so that the show actually made a small loss) so I take this very seriously.Should anyone else get a parking charge, please contact me DO NOT REPLY TO THE PARKING COMPANY. Thanks for the reply. I wouldnt tell any station not to turn up if another suddenly wanted to join in, more the merrier and they all serve the Fylde Coast. Disappointing one station hasnt been interested in any potential fund raising support.

That is such a shame! AND AM VERY SORRY TO HEAR THAT, ESPECIALLY AS IT WAS SUCH A SUPERB SHOW AND WHAT I AM GOING TO SAY NEXT!...
... as the hotel probably made enough from you, through the hire of the area, AND the revenue they made from people staying at the hotel throughout the weekend and that revenue that they took from people visiting the bar during the weekend.
BUT, what annoys me about this business of having to pay for the parking is the fact that the hotel general manager had a duty of care for you and the visiting public, in making the establishment a nice environment for both exhibiters and the visiting public to feel comfortable attending.
This, the general hotel manager on duty did not do, either around the rear area where exhibiters had to pass waste and detritus, including bin bags split open probably by rats, that exposed grime such as spoiled nappies, but more to the front main entrance where there is a ramp for wheel chair access to the front door.
now, before any smoker gets on my back, although I do not smoke and detest smoking, every one has their choice on how to ruin their health...
..mine is nice red steaks and strong beer, and am not complaining about the fact that people need to go outside to smoke

I am complaining that the manager has not seen the foresight to put any smoking bins there so that smokers can deposit their butt ends in a waste bin...
...its not rocket science....BUT,
this is a BIG BUT.....at the last turning of the disabled ramp before you reached the pavement area, someone had before I arrived, and long before the weekend, someone had vomited al over the ramp, and that vomit remained there ALL WEEKEND, even though I personally told two different maids over the weekend, that it was a lousy advert for a supposedly family friendly hotel.
the last thing anyone wants to see when coming to a hotel to either stay for a weekend or to visit a show, no matter what the show is, stale peuke over a 3 day weekend at the main entrance.
I fealt this so disgusting that I actually reported the matter both to the local press and the health and environment of the local council.....it truly was disgusting.
if Stavros and Iain would like to mention this to the management at the Norbreck I will quite gladly state my findings to the management.
it might be a good idea to find other hotels that might do a deal on hotel accommodation and tell the management of the Norbreck that such discounts are available if the Norbreck doesn't remove the charges from the show organisers for parking...
.there are plenty of much nicer hotels to stay in in Blackpool and surrounding areas, that don't have vomit hanging around for days outside the main entrance and garbage at the reat
.Red Lion just down the road for one.

To be honest reading comments about the Hotel I doubt very much that the management care less.
Which is a shame as if run correctly I am sure the Norbreck could be the hotel to go to, however the front area has looked a mess for as long as I have been going to the show they just need to level the whole area , fill in the old pond and improve the parking arrangements, and as for the hotel rooms, well just read the comments on trip advisor.
I can understand them introducing a charge to prevent people from just parking up, not actually staying at or using the facilities but to Charge guests and even worse to charge a Show Hiring the venue is shocking to say the least. Britannia Hotels should be ashamed..
As for the Actual Boat show, Well that was superb :-)) :-))

I know nothing about the Norbreck and have no wish to get involved in a slanging match. But I have to agree about the car parking the show must at least break even. Last year I stopped near the show but the cost this year went through the roof hence I decided to stay 6 mile up the coast at a much reduced cost

I will bring these issues to the attention of the management.Whilst I agree that this sort of thing should not happen, I have also seen things from the other side of the fence & to be honest, find the staff at the hotel to be great, the problem is that they have a lack of resource. It seems to be the case that head office are the ones who don't want to spend the cash - the reason being that the hotel is doing well (financially) it is generally busy & so from a purely accountant's point of view, there is little point spending money as you are not likely to make any more. The hotel staff do the best they can with what they have, but I do take your point that the entrance could & should have been dealt with.The alternative suggested - the Red Lion - is a Premier Inn. They will not give any sort of group discounts (I have tried) so you are at the mercy of whatever their web site chooses to charge you, the lowest I saw for the weekend of the show was over £70 a night (room only) & I was told by one visitor to the show that a double room had cost him over £400 for the weekend, all be it that he booked quite late.As far as trip advisor (& any other feedback forums) is concerned, you need to bear in mind that when everything is OK 99% of people will say nothing, whereas when something goes wrong 99% of people will shout about it. With hotels, there is also the element that expect 5* for 2* price.I arranged rooms for a number of people at the Norbreck for the show weekend & the hotel prioritised those bookings, allocating rooms that had recently had renovations, so (most of) the 30+ rooms I organised were fine. I stayed at the hotel myself & the room was perfectly OK, no complaints at all, so there are decent rooms to be had.I don't want to get into a drawn out debate on the good & bad points of the Norbreck, but I will do what I can working with the management there to make the show as good as I can. Next year I will be promoting the hotel accomodation more, the idea being that anyone wishing to visit Blackpool for the weekend will pay a single price that will cover the hotel as well as entry to the show (&parking!) These bookings will be prioritised into the "better" rooms & as a block booking, should be somewhat cheaper than any of the normal booking sites. Keep an eye on the show web site where the details will be published once negotiations with the hotel are complete.Anyway, thanks to all who came to the show & all the modellers who brought the fruits of their considerable labours for us all to admire.

We stayed at the village hotel and wife paid £180 for two nights B&B double room.
This was fully refunded after she made complaints about cleanliness & noise

you said the magic word Britannia hotels . One of the worst is not the worst chains in the UK . Look them up on the web. Would not stay there if you payed me .
Does not matter what you say they will only ever spend minuim money on any hotel and un staff it

It is the first time I had visited the show ( which was superb ) and also the first time I had stayed at the Norbreck. My partner, myself + 3 grandkids stayed Sunday night ( £50 for a family room with sea view) I had seen bad feedback on TripAdvisor, after I had booked the room, and was very sceptical about staying there but on arriving was very surprised, the staff were very helpful and the room was good. If I was to take the grandkids again I would stay there again as a family room for 5 would cost an absolute fortune anywhere else. I do agree that money does need to be spent on the place but its only when it stops making money will the owners spend any amount of money on it.
The show was absolutely fantastic I met Neil for the first time and talked all thing lifeboat for quite a while and I also put an order into Mountfleet for my next project. A 1/12 scale Mersey lifeboat.

Reference hotels 'not caring less', I have noticed that the chains care a lot about their Trip Adviser reviews and ratings. Espcecially if they receive several bad reviews at the same time, because this can have an immediate affect in bookings. The chains seem to have a person whose job is to monitor and manage those, as such things often do get done. When head office say, "Jump"... by contrast a complaint to busy staff in the hotel often does not get the attention it needs.
A few years ago I was at an OU weekend seminar in a fancy conference center. I noticed that they were removing all of the china mugs from the coffee bars and replacing them with plastic cups. I also noticed a hygiene issue in one of the toilets. During a break I went onto the company website, which popped up asking for feedback, and reported what I had seen. During the next break I noticed that all of the china cups were being put out again, and a manager sought me out to apologize and ask me to direct him to the toilet with a problem.
Perhaps the trick is to go on line while you are still at the hotel, if you want to benefit yourself.
