It brings up a warning . . . "Do Not Click This Button Again".

Stops us looking at Sexually Explicit boat models :D
Ned
I see what you mean Ned :} :} I guess Martin hasn't got around to editing the text file that goes with it %%
-
Yes, that was a bit of a surprise! I thought for a moment that Martin was expanding the scope of Mayhem! {-) {-)
-
:o :o :o :o :o :o
-
OK, I am stumped Martin. I have tried clicking it, nothing. I can't make out what the new symbol is supposed to represent. I've tried highlighting some text, then clicking it. No change.
Text-over says "upload images" but it does not go anywhere.
Please tell us what the new symbol is, and what it does.
-
When I click on that new button, I Get this!
( .... check 'Pop-ups' are not blocked for http://modelboatmayhemimages.co.uk )

Thanks C-3PO.
The new feature should take you to a sign up page on the new Mayhem Image Server!

It doesn’t accept my user name, email address or password, in fact it tells me there is none mail address on my account.
-
It's a separate system to Mayhem forum - sits and runs along side it...
Did you use the "Create Account" option on Mayhem Images page
Regards
C-3PO
-
What do we do with this seperate system then ? Do we need to use it for posting images, sorry havent got to grips with what this is for.
N
-
It's a whole new system for posting photo on Mayhem.
Once you sign up, it should post the photos for you! :o
-
Ok, I've created an account , just waiting for the email to activate, didnt arrive straightaway as I expected........
N
-
It's a whole new system for posting photo on Mayhem.
Once you sign up, it should post the photos for you! :o
Out of curiosity will it resize pictures as well ? My facility in my iMac is not working correctly, when I ask it to save a re-sized image it freaks out.
-
... should do everything!
-
just tied uploading two pics - it seemed to be going ok, the upload timed out once I found a picture to post, but it hasn't appeared ?
N
-
Another picture but not uploaded?
N
-
Not looking hopeful for me at the moment! I thought I was working through the process ok but I end up with no photo attached?
-
Aha got the hang of it 2 albums started. Whoopee.
-
OK I have got the method now at last and an Album is under construction. Any tips Martin?
N
-
Let me try....
-
Well that worked yesterday... let me do a bit more digging. >:-o
-
Is seems to be working now!?!?!?

Its been some time since I posted a photo - whatever I try this morning doesn't work?
Am I supposed to use this new feature Martin or is it the same as before? Photo I chose was under 300k too.
N
-
Oops ! Something worked there? Didnt show anything til I posted?
N
-
Seems to be working now! :o
OK, a few notes:
1. The new system is a completely different system and not directly linked to Mayhem, an affiliate of Mayhem.
2. ∴ You need to create a new Logon for it to work for you.
3. I would suggest you use the same Mayhem Username, Email & Password as you do here on Mayhem forum.
3a. - Photo hosting websites are a magnet for all sorts of nefarious types - I will have to manage the site manually.
3b. - If you use your Mayhem Login name, you account won't get accidentally deleted, see below !
4. www.modelboatmayhemimages.co.uk is an 'images' only server and has quite a number of option once you've created your own account. Auto uploading, Resizing, Albums, basic image editing, etc. everything we ever wanted! :P
Legal Bit:
4. I can see all photos uploaded.
5. Any distasteful, sexual, paedophile, illegal photos or ANYTHING like that, the police will Immediately notified.

Its been a mini challenge Martin!
I have questions but for another time.....get familiar first!

Could do with a tutorial how to resize photo's on this new feature Martin, as this has always been an ongoing problem seeing as most photo files these days are
Mega large - 4Mb in many cases?
Thanks
Nord.
-
I think you are much better off resizing your photos before you submit them as uploading batches of large files over the internet can be time consuming and you can run into timeout problems.
There are lots of easy to use resizing programs available and documented on here.

Hi
Sorry Martin it is just not working for me, I have now tried seven times using my forum details, will call it a day for now and see if I can get it to work next year.
-
Just a test to see if the old attachments way of posting pictures still works - if there is no picture under this then it doesn't!
Yes still Ok - so I assume that I can ignore all this new stuff?
-
Ok , Thanks Colin. I have always used Photoshop software to date for all my resizing, its just that I thought Martin
was introducing something rather more streamlined here .
Photoshop is ok for me but it demands a lot of menu clicking to get the end result.
Nordlys.
-
Photoshop is doing it the hard way if you are just resizing. The other programs mentioned allow you to simply select a group of photos and reduce them to a specified size. It only takes seconds.

Posting an image using the "old attachment way" uses forum host server disk space which potentially either affects the forum (archiving required) or possible extra cost for more server storage.
The new system I believe has "unlimited" disk storage and was supposed to resize the image either in your browser before it's uploaded or once it's hit the server.
I know Martin was after a simple "one click" solution, easy to use that didn't create future storage problems and did away with "resizing" before uploading and also was under "Mayhem's" (his) control to stop the image ransom situation occurring again.

I think thats what Martin has introduced. Im trying to get to grips with how to use this facility ie bring the image off my album, resized & ready to post.
N

Let's see if it works from my phone ........

:o Golden!!!
-
So Martin can we now take resized pictures out of our new albums straight onto the Mayhem Forum?
-
Oh No ! Just tried signing up to the new system but the log in email has not come through . Don't tell me that because I am on Hotmail I can't use the new facility {:-{
-
Maybe it needs a human (Martin) to approve - unlike the auto approval systems

Baldrick, The returning email to you may take a few minutes.........

When I click on the GREEN box it asks me to confirm that I want to view sexually explicit material...............?
Is that what everyone here is agreeing to ?
Sounds dodgy to me.............!

Nope, doesn't need anything from me, ( although I have requested that feature!).
... check your Spam folder?
I'll create a Hotmail account and test....

Working on it..... I had changed that but an update wiped it out! >:-o

When the initial Photobucket problem emerged Martin did not seem at all concerned about this. Has this changed?

If you wouldn't mind telling me how to delete unwanted pictures from my album Martin please, just cant see any way to do it ?
Plus , still waiting to find out if its possible to post a pic on the forum from my album already downsized?
Thanks I know you'll have the answers!

Delete now enabled.
Not sure what you're ask, you can post a photo from anywhere, PC, laptop, phone.... Etch-a-sketch if it has WiFi!

If we have albums in the new section ,can we post pictures directly from it to mayhem without having all the resizing rigmarole, as once in the album they are automatically resized aren’t they?

Umm, I would think it will be great but not happy about having to agree to this !! <*< <*<

I had to turn off the spam filters on my email service provider (by logging onto the webmail for my service provider) so I get all the spam mail (sorted into a spam folder at home), due to the over zealous spam filters provided by my service provider, I reckon for every 5 spam mails I get, there are 1 or 2 that are mislabelled that I wasnt receiving.

Thanks Martin, nice neat feature......... :-))

What am I missing??????
1. How is this going to solve the problem of not being able to view photos posted to threads.
2. Is it any better than me posting a photo directly into the thread. Take it this will be some kind of "link" to somewhere.
3. When that link doesn't work, don't forget about Murphy, are we not back to square one.
4. As someone pointed out, the agreement mentions sexually explicit, yet admin will bounce you to the cops, contradiction Y/N??.
5. Can anyone, namely not necessarily a mayhem member, use this 'photo' bit.
Might be an idea to put it all under its own separate thread.
Lot of us novices out there so need to keep it simple.

Morning RAAArtyGunner...how's ya chooks coping with the heat up north...or is it raining? :-)
The only difference I see is the latest images posted by black magic appear as 900 x 675 pixels on the MBM page, whereas the images I posted to RGY on his Tottny Castle this morning in the conventional method are 900 x 506 on the MBM page
Technology & I sometimes don't quite see eye to <*< eye {-)

And the image that I posted yesterday by the old direct method was 1750 x 1453 and under 200kb. Photos posted by the new method seem very small - or at least they do on my HD screen. Even if I left mouse click on them they don't fill the screen.

Is the add image to post using new system a process of 2 steps - "Green" button to upload image and then find the "Embed Code" and paste it into post?

Hopefully this text may be of use to others.
I was confused that I did not seem to be having the same experience with Martin's new Image Upload solution - namely a One Click process - being image upload and auto insert embed code (image URL)
I can confirm that the "ONE CLICK" does work - it works really well!
I had uBlock Ad Blocker running that whilst allowing the image upload was stopping the auto placement of the embed code in my post.
So if you are not getting a "one click" solution then look for Anti Virus/ Ad Blocker/ Malware or other settings that are blocking the process
Phew

My Samsung Tablet would not 'lift' the copy command from the embed BB code box which resulted in no details to paste into the reply box!
Took a while to track that down.
My PC does it with no problem.

Ah OK, watch out for Popup blockers! {:-{
-
I know for me I'm relatively new and thanks to Microsoft re-sizing photos easily ended at win 7. I get a "message upload" fail on here -I loose the original post text also though. Guess I need to find an alternative image host.
I get lots of blockers on this site compared to others though Lots of pop-up boxes with mayhem logos!
-
You shouldn't get ANYTHING Blocked, It's All on the same server!?!?!!
Anyway, you don't need to resize or anything, that's what this service is for! :-))
-
OK, I still don't get it. I keep clicking on Martin's new button but nothing happens. Is it supposed to prompt you for an image to upload? Well, it doesn't. Maybe you have to log on to the parallel image hosting site first? If so, where is it?
Until it works I will continue sizing my pictures in Paint Shop Pro and uploading to SmugMug.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Right: Read back through to beginning of thread and found the web address of the new hosting site.
Tried logging in - Invalid user name or password
Tried creating a "new" account with the same details as I use for Mayhem. "Invalid user name", repeatedly.
Suggestions?
-
seems to work fine for me, took a bit of messing about to find the right link code to use to bring the images across but now I know where I am it has made it really easy to snap it with the phone camera , email it to my PC adjust the crop and bang it into a post and the site adjusts the size to suit . Only takes two minutes where previously I was faffing about all evening. Must get down to reading what all the other codes are for. !
That is my point exactly. For this to work seamlessly you must use the same log in and password as on Mayhem, which is what I was trying to do. No idea what confusion may occur if I use a completely different set of account details for the new photo site. Many of us have Mayhem screen names with spaces. Martin - suggestions please. :police:
-
Go into your new mayhem image hosting account and double check youf details. I found i had put wrong Email address in, changed to correct Email, saved changes, you should get a message to say Email sent for varification. Go to your Email account (check spam/unwanted folder) and click on link to activate.
Hi Bob - Make an account with the user name Bob_K on this website http://modelboatmayhemimages.co.uk. Make sure that your PC remembers this site so that you can log on automatically next time. I think that this should work for you then as I made my account Mark_T and its works ok for me.
-
test
No. After creating a new log in of Bob_K and uploading a couple of images to it the new button still does not work.
This test ended up doing the full "attachments" search and attach, the same as before the new a/c hosting was set up.
I don't think this is interacting with Martin's new photo album at all as I had to select the attachment from my PC disk, and not the new photo library which I had added several images to.
Still baffled. New image host still not accessible from within a Mayhem post.
Maybe because Bob K and Bob_K are seen as different users?
-
Bob, are you copying and pasting the BB code for the image you want uploading from "mayhemimages" into the reply box on mayhem?
-
No. I am selecting "attachments", "browse", then selecting the image from my PC disk drive. The same as before the new image site. As usual, the image only appears after you click "Post". No interaction with the new image hosting site at all, nothing happens when I click Martin's new image button. I would have thought clicking that button would have taken me to the new image site so I could select an uploaded image from it for my Post.
Probably because I have a screen name of "Bob K" on Mayhem, but "Bob_K" on the image site is seen as a different person? The image site will not accept "Bob K" as a valid user name.
-
If I may add my observation Bob - your image does appear on Martins new image hosting site alongwith your name. It is there waiting to be uploaded
when required.
N
-
I have joined Martins photo service & tried to upload an image. Unfortunately it will not accept an image greater than 1Mb which means that I still have to do all the resizing etc that I did before. Am I missing something?
-
Ok........you don't need to click on attachments. Click the new green button, this will take you to your new image hosting page. Drop all the images you want in it. Then select an image, scroll down to the options and you should come across 'BB code' copy this, then paste it in the reply box on mayhem. The new site does everything for you. I have upoaded images of over 10mb with no problems.
This new system works, give it time and follow instructions.
Bob - screen names are not the issue. More likely a "popup" blocker or some other setting stopping the "green" button loading MBMI window. Your understanding is correct - from the post click the "Green" button and you should see a new window - may as well get that working before explaining what comes next
Similar to bfgstew I have just uploaded a 7MB image no issue. I know you commented on the size of the uploaded, processed image which is a soft setting @ 1024x1024 max in the MBMI system
I don't see a "green" button, just a red one, and clicking that does nothing at all.
Just above the 'thumbs up' emoji in the reply box.
Bob,
I think the button would go green if you refresh your cache. However green or red it's this button that you click (see arrow) that should bring up a new window.
(http://modelboatmayhemimages.co.uk/images/2017/11/18/GreenButton.jpg)
If that does not work your computer is stopping the popup opening (Adware/pop up blocker/malware or something...)
I think Martin is going to publish a "pictorial guide" of the new Image Upload process
C-3PO
-
Bob, If your images are all pre-sized anyway then practically speaking you dont actually draw any benefits from struggling with the new image hosting service,
however you may like the challenge of getting to grips with it?!
There is no "green" button, and never was, right from when Martin first introduced it.
See screen shot below. Yes, I have logged out many times since then, cleared my cache, even had two Windows 10 updates. Never been a green button in that position. Clicking it has absolutely no effect.
If the action attempts to add a pop-up I get a mini window at bottom of screen asking if I want to "allow" it. No such indication ever seen on Mayhem.
This might work!
Photo via Martin method
(http://modelboatmayhemimages.co.uk/images/2017/11/18/Full-Size.jpg)
There I go. Now the same image posted my way as an attachment
Interesting. The quality of the Martin image is not as good even though I reduced & compressed my old system download. The Martin image also has a watermark on it.
Question
Does it matter to the forum whether I use the Martin method or the old attachment method? I prefer the old attachment method as my quality is better & my image can be seen larger.
-
Bob, have you got a mobile or tablet that you can use? I very rarely use my PC to upload photo's. The faffing around of downloading onto it is taken away using the new system, plus no hassle with pop ups, firefox, safari, etc etc. I use chrome on my phone and tablet with no issues.
-
Thanks for all your kind responses. I am just going to have to accept that the "new" system does not work for all. No issues at all with image uploads elsewhere using Internet Explorer, just this site. I still feel that having a space character in my Mayhem screen name, not allowable in Mayhem images, is very significant. Not seen anyone else with space characters getting this to work.
I believe it is very significant that the new Mayhem image button is red (inactive?).
OK. I always resize my images before uploading, so maybe the new site does not offer any real advantage over SmugMug. Using that I can imbed the BB code anywhere in my text, to illustrate a series of points. The direct upload to Mayhem or the new image site always stuffs them at the end and they are not visible in preview like they are when I use SmugMu BB codes in my text.
Transferring photos from my camera to mobile, where I have no means of cropping and resizing them, is not practical and would be a very long winded process.
So, until someone can figure out why Martin's new hosting gallery is not usable for all I will stick to Paint Shop Pro and SmuMug. They are both very quick and easy to use.
It is great that the wise have developed this answer for the forum. It does not matter that it is not the best answer for everybody but rather it is great that there is now an easy answer that the non technophobes will find possible to use & which secures the photos in the forum from future corporate greed etc.
As you highlight the greatest strength to me is that you can go text, photo, text, photo, photo, text etc etc in a post rather than all the text followed by all the photos. For build logs etc this is really useful & is where I would use this new facility.
I still feel that having a space character in my Mayhem screen name, not allowable in Mayhem images, is very significant. Not seen anyone else with space characters getting this to work.
Bob - 100% not the case - seperate systems with their own login & naming rules
I believe it is very significant that the new Mayhem image button is red (inactive?).
100% not the case - in Internet Explorer get into the "post" screen - you will see the "Red" button - press F5 on your keyboard and the button will now go green and you will never see it RED again
MBMI and W10 & Internet Explorer 11 incompatible! (?)
Been diggin....
Windows Internet Explorer 11 was the last version of Internet Explorer to be released by Microsoft.
Many of us who installed Windows 10 took an instant dislike to Edge and dug out IE11 instead ( an old tool which according to some sources has been deprecated)
So I think IE11 and Martin's new Image solution are incompatible
If you load IE11 and click on the Green button it generates an error message "Unable to get property 'focus' or undefined or null reference" - not visible unless you turn on the debugging options.
If you load Edge on the same W10 computer the green button will work ok.
If you have used IE11 and the Green button successfully please let us know so we can correct the record....
This is text from the developer of the Image Software that MBMI uses "IE 11 is deprecated. Which means use it on your own risk. "
MS Edge has only 4.3% of the browser market, and IMHO is naff compared with IE Explorer.
Downloaded Chrome (also with limitations compared with IE) and got loads of warning messages from Nortron's. (Not as safe?). MS are still updating IE Explorer on a regular basis.
No issue here - I will stick with Paint Shop Pro and SmugMug. They do exactly what I want, quickly, and I can both insert photos amongst my text paragraphs, AND preview before I post.
.................................... and I can both insert photos amongst my text paragraphs...............................
For my information how do you do this. Mine always end up at the end & did when I used Explorer and still do with Edge (which I quite like)
Mr Tug
I crop and presize my photos in Paint Shop Pro, then drag and drop them into SmugMug. In SmugMug I select the photo from my album of that build and "copy" the BB code for it.
I tend to write my Post texts in MS Word, so I can get It how I want and spell check. In between the paragraphs I "paste" the copied BB code from SmugMug. I can copy/paste several photos in between various paragraphs.
At this point it is all in Word. I "copy" the whole text into the Mayhem Post window, including my imbedded BB codes for the images, so when I click Preview I can see them in between the text paragraphs.
Maybe a few minor edits in Mayhem, then click "Post". Photos where I want them in amongst the text.
Handy for illustrating points in a build.
Thank you Bob K
I don't use a photo hosting website & that I suspect is the difference. I have tried building my illustrated post in a word processor - I use this method for some emails - but it won't copy & paste onto the posting blank here. Thanks again for the explanation.
I did a test post of a photo using the new Martin method & it got a watermark "ModelBoatMayhem.co.uk" but I notice that the photos Martin has posted from the International Model Boat Show do not have the watermark.
Why was my photo watermarked & yet Martins was not?
-
Perhaps Martin is hosting his photos on a different server, and
not on the Mayhem bulletin board server.
:-)
-
My guess is that Martin "ftp'd" the images that don't have a watermark directly to the new MBMI system - (didn't use the MBMI upload facility)
But having just seen Umi's post you are correct they are on imgbox.com
The obvious - once you have pointed it out to me - answer.
I never checked as I had just recklessly assumed that Martin would be using the new image posting route.
.... also, some on ImageBB...... experimenting! %%
A coupe of thoughts on your pictures.
The two small photos are obviously much lower quality than the others when enlarged to the same size but the others are very similar. The last one - with 3x the file size of the rest - is not really any better than most of the others.
