Hi all,  Looking to put a working radar on this fire boat. Any ideas please as there is no scope to hide a motor ?  Thank you

I will be interested to see this as well Bob. how small can motors go and what sort of gearing and voltage does one use.

have a look  at  www.bauer-modelle.com  on the left side look for modern fittings  'click'  then look for radars

there is a few on there that have a very small motor inside the body of the radar  ' i have one but haven't fitted it yet

Try the component shop I have some really small drive units on my models which would probably fit on here.

I think they are micro drive units, call them for advice.

Not sure how big the model is but have you ever seen the Lego MicroMotor?
It's tiny, torquey, geared right down so ideal for radars and fits inside a 2x2 Lego brick housing.
DC max 9V but runs on very low voltages at slower speeds

Quite rare but very useful. (It's used in the old Lego Technic Space Shuttle to open the satellite's solar panels).

As an alternative, you already have a vertical shaft going to the two lights. This could be arranged to be driven by a suitable motor inside the superstrucrure. Fit a small pulley under the radar, a pulley on the shaft and use a small rubber band to connect.

Thank Jim Looked at the lego motors They are selling at anything from £20.00/£35.00. It looks like they are a sought after item

The trick with the Lego motors is find out which models it is included in and look for the unpopular ones. There's a breakdown truck  (set 6484) with it that can go for £10 for the whole model - motor included.

try a flexible drive,ie a bicycle brake cable or gear change cable, its a lot slimmer. nemesis
