I'm sure we all got lots of presents - what did the big man bring you?
I discovered a load of bits & bobs to get some models moving - motors, speed controllers, propshafts, props, collars and a load of 5-min epoxy. :embarrassed:
-
SWMBO has decided we are too old for presents - bah humbug- so I bought my own. A Fairey Huntsman 31 kit.
-
Still hopeful of getting something........
-
I only ever ask for socks, but this year I’ve been treated to a trip to Sweden for the World Rally Championship as a VIP guest of Ford M-Sport. I think that’s the best present I’m ever going to get, luckiest git in the universe right now.
Merry Christmas everyone!

We've done this for a few years now. Its the best way of making sure you get what you really want and not a drawer full of socks :}

The plan is to rebuild the double garage level with the front of the house and turn the present garage into an office and a workshop behind the new one, extending the present main roof-line over the lot. That'll take up all of our "when we get old" money!
Fingers crossed for no problems with exchange and completion.
Liz says Santa must have seen the SOLD sign up outside our current house and taken our prezzies to the new one!

I like your thinking. If you have a low ceiling in the office/workshop, you could have a nice storage space on top. Enough room to hide the whisky :-)) and the office will keep warmer, with less heating.

A small but beautifully formed little thing , a miniature but fully functioning low angle block plane with Norris style adjustment. Made in Canada by Veritas, perfect for truing up those small wood pieces. Only 2 1/4" in length

These are beautiful bits of kit - I've got one an use it a lot; they are a pleasure to use as long as the blade is scalpel sharp.
One of my daughters bought me a £25 gift voucher to Cornwall Model Boats - she knows how to keep her dad happy :-))

Fleetwood Mac :-))

Hmmmm.... I wonder if someone is trying to tell me something or that my family have finally twigged my prezzie preferences.
1 x Bottle Tomatin 12 year old.
1 x Bottle Cardhu Gold Reserve
2 x bottles Jack Daniels
1 x bottle M&S Port (said to be excellent; haven't had a glass of port for years)
Assorted brands of Sauvignon Blanc - all Marlborough.
Shame I was driving yesterday! 4 x bottles Becks Blue...
DM

I was allowed 2 days in the workshop before Xmas :-)) ,so I cooked the xmas dinner and was rewarded with a bottle of rum......have not been in workshop yet.....rum seems to be evaporating......best not use machines just yet. %%
-

-
...spent Christmas with the wife and a meal, very quiet as first year all 3 step children went to their father's, big of him after 14 years. Anyway, we got ourselves tickets for Rock against Cancer in All Cannings in May, and as it turns out a possible trip to Vancouver island in June/July to welcome a first grandchild for us from my lad and his wife, dogs enjoyed a run on Brean Beach and thats about it, very quiet. Wishing you all a healthy and prosperous New Year in 2018. :-))

does it buzz at you if you dont have a steady hand taking the contents out?
-
Would have been more exciting but unfortunately not. ;)
It had a small towel, some coffee, a Santa hat, some led lights, a torch, some sweets and a pen knife card.
And of course the box!
The coffee was nice! :-))
-
...and a pen knife card.
What is one of those?
-
It was my best description of a multi purpose card like thing with the abilities of a pen knife- sort of!
-
Ah! I guy a worked with had one of those for 2 days, and then he went to board a plane and forgot it was in his wallet %) :police:

Have a full set as well, my thumb is healing from a run in with one of the chisels :). They are available from Lee Valley (http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=72391&cat=1,41504) in Canada.
Santa brought me a motor kit for paper airplanes that you control with your phone. lol
-
Best UK seller for all Veritas
https://www.toolnut.co.uk/products/veritas-miniature-chisel-set-3-piece
Plane was £41.95 delivered.

Santa made my camera work again by magic (seriously, I did not take it to be repaired, it just started working again %% ) so I got some brass stock to make boatey bits with, a Drill sharpener plus slippers ( I am over forty now you know!) pullovers, Gin, a book on Gin, Sugared almonds, a CD by Mac Demarco and a book on the Russian motor industry.
I don't trust my family yet to buy model boat items without close supervision so I was pleased with this stash.
Happy Christmas and all that chaps.

Friday the 11th of November 1977
Out of 40,000 fans, is this not an image of our Neil?....during his sojourn to Australia. O0...and before his locks turned a curly silver :-X
-
no mate........but the one with the curly blonde hair ESE of your highlighted one stood sideways just behind that pretty girl with hand up to her ear could have been..........we were that close to the stage as we had to look upwards all the time............lol. O0 O0 O0
-
just been digging my 35mm slides out, and the one I talk about could probably be me, because the guy beyond me with the shades on, was a good friend pete sullivan who I rode bikes with.........the guy to his left with the pointed face was a mate of his, who just loved a scrap, and went to live in Perth, and the young short lady to the left on pic of the lady in front of "me", forget her name was a friend of the gang, and her father was the governor of Christmas island, and she lived in the mansion they had on her own in Canberra.......never seen that photo, but from the angle we were looking......well, the rest of the crowd, not me was taken from the left of the stage............and was early evening when Kevin Borich was on, before Little River Band as it was still lovely sunshine...................god knows where you found that.
and we were stood on the right side of the stage........so quite possible indeed.

Nice one {-)
Before any smart 'bottom' tells me off for putting the plane on its sole plate, the blade is not set when it's delivered in its case.
There's always one on facebook <*<

When my plane arrived not only was the blade not set but it was not assembled, just bits tissue wrapped in the posh box . Easily assembled providing you have not indulged excessively during the festive period and your fingers are not too fat.

My plane didn't arrive. >>:-(

being a woodwork teacher for 22 years, you never put a plane down on its sole because ITS THE SOLE THAT GETS DAMAGED................you can grind a blade chip out.............you can't grind a sole out.............we ain't smart arssses......we just respect our tools........as my grand dad would say when he gave me my first Stanley smoothing plane in 1960........DONT BE A TOOL WITH A TOOL.
simples!!!.

Neil when I was an apprentice I had been playing up a bit at work, so as a penance I was handed a deliberately broken in half surface plane. I was told to braze it back together and then make it as good as new on a surface grinder using an angle plate onto the magnetic base. I learnt my lesson as it took ages to get it to my foreman's specifications. I can honestly say that since then I have respect for my tools :-)

Veritas put it on its base to photograph it so I think I can

With plane (and chisels) don't expect them to work perfectly 'out of the box' They will have an edge and will work, but ideally need to be really sharpened properly before use.
Check youtube for scary sharp chisels and scary sharp plane blades for how to achieve a real cutting edge.
-
well, I've already listed the pressies from Santa, that I received on the day, but today I received a belated one that no one could ever top.
whilst watching for the flotilla of neighbouring lifeboats and crews to sail down the river together to Fleetwood in their annual pie and a pint lunch at the local pub, [ which never happened as half the crews either turned up by tram, car bus or taxi] and only St Annes and Barrow boats came in]I met someone!
NO!!!, not a lady...........even better than that.................the grand son of the mechanic of Fleetwood lifeboat who saved my life from drowning on my birthday in June 1959 I couldn't ask for a better Christmas present than that. I am so happy to have finally met a person directly related to the man himself, long passed over the barr. <:(

Unfortunately not. You can never have too many saw horses, or hammers.

My son tracked down an unmade, white metal figure of a Taisho General Archer from the 70's/80's..... beautifully detailed castings but sadly no box
I have a passion for Samurai history and medieval archery alongside model boats so a dream of a gift for me.
An absolute cracking figure with the link to model boating being Frank Hinchcliffe of Mountfleet models.
I saw this completed figure some years ago when I visited Mountfleet to purchase a Highlander Puffer kit from them.
Can't wait to get started on it !
Sadly my computer skills aren't sufficient to download photos...for anyone interested in seeing a completed figure search Google for Taisho Samurai model figure .

I've got a birthday coming up mid Jan and CMB vouchers would be very useful. I've searched their website and can't find any mention of them doing vouchers. Any ideas on how your daughter got them?

I mortar known you'd have some flimsy excuse... 8)
It was probably Storm Aileen, who picked us up from Nolton Haven in Wales and blew us back to Nottingham, so she did. Just like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz but without that ******* dog.
BTW I use Armillatox to clean the moss and algae from our drive and paths. It works a treat but it's certainly not cheap! I inherited a half-full 5L bottle from my Dad who died in 2005. There's still half of that left so you don't need much. It's also brilliant at killing moss in lawns - so good that the EU banned it from sale as anything but a tar-wash for hard surfaces. https://www.amenity.co.uk/disinfectants/armillatox-outdoor-cleaner-5l.html (https://www.amenity.co.uk/disinfectants/armillatox-outdoor-cleaner-5l.html)
