Title: Purgative Properties
Post by: Baldrick on January 05, 2018, 10:13:49 pm

Downloading the site is now very very slow. Could it be that we have a Lifeboatburg ( similar to a fatburg but more sinister ) circulating through the forum system ? perhaps causing blockages and overloading it ? If so perhaps we could administer a large dose of this stuff . It worked for me but don't stand too close for 12 hours. .

Maybe a course of Senekot will make our computers a bit more regular?

Slow computers may be down to a recent security update.
Two bugs (not viruses) named Meltdown and Spectre were discovered in Intel and most other cpu chips (including phones). This created a security flaw. A patch has been developed but it slows down computers.

As I understand it, Meltdown and Spectre are only bugs when there is malware already on the pc and therefore can exploit the slowdown error in the pc chips - note - the exploit is on apparently every pc chip irrespective, then the bugs can use this exploit to mine the information they want ie passwords details etc when the info is expected to be needed by the pc, eg, if you look at a bank account web site, the pc starts to look at the passwords well before you get to start entering the details and if you suddenly decide not to go ahead and close the web site (say someone came in the room that you did not want to see what you are looking at) then the information it collected is dumped - that's the information it can mine to send to those looking to steal it, remember the computer needs to be infected with malware before had to allow meltdown and spectre to be loaded in the background.

I agree that a dose of Epsom salts needs to be applied - electronically speaking.

According to AVAST no one has been used yet. the latest Windows Fix will probably cause more problems than the bug

A bug is a flaw in the software, this is not malware.
The bugs in question had left computers vulnerable to attack. However, I think the bugs were discovered before they were exploited.
The bugs have only recently been discovered, and fixed. There is no need for alarm.

I understand that indeed it is the fix that is causing the slowing down, but not due to a lack of fiber.
