As I said elsewhere my holiday photos don't look like anybody else's & now you will all know that I am mad but I could not ignore the overhead street wiring in the cities. I have seen the same in Europe but never like this. I just hope that it is all telephone cable but I strongly suspect that there are power lines in there as well.
We watched a van, which was presumably a couple of inches taller than those that normally used the road bring down a collection of wires & drive off.
Sitting on the top deck of an open top bus the wires sometimes ran along the roof top.

Yes open top but with rails to keep the wires and passengers separate!

And lots of different types of rodents with very sharp teeth to run along the cables and gnaw at the insulation. Apparently they're very fond of it the world over.

I would have thought that movement through wind etc would not help much given a little time.

The big insulators are power, the uninsulated bare wires are power lines. The big terminals on the transformer box are a give-away.
The insulated stuff is probably telephone cable, the larger multi pair, some of it appears to be single pair drop wire. In all probability, a lot of it is old and unused, not having been removed when a replacement length was inserted, probably because of the high probability of damaging working stuff by removing it. When there is enough, it will probably serve to keep the rain off the street.

They do similar in Spain. In fact in our village there is a block of 16 apartments that were built in 2007. The builder didn't apply for the correct permissions when built so they were not given habitation licenses. Without that he couldn't sell them have water connected or electricity. So there is just one occupied by a local, this chap got an electrician to wire into the junction box on the next door building wall, run the cable across the adjoining balcony and into his apartment through a window, in essence a giant extension cable. This powers his apartment at no charge for the electricity, he did the same for the water supply %%

Looks like the wiring in Thailand. Bangkok is like that in the close streets. Out in Phukhet that is the norm. I was there 2 weeks in "wet season" and you learned not to walk under any cluster of wires / transformer boxes in a decent downpour. The buzzing from a transformer was huge in the dry from the humidity anyway. You often saw sparks crossing connections overhead at night in a downpour -sparks fly and cinders dropping down on you like spent fireworks. Plenty entertainment out there if you're out near a pole at the wrong time. LoL.
......Mind you, my favourite place in the US (and I don't like the US) is Boston MA -and their wiring looks shocking compared to europe!

That wiring looks very similar to what I've seen in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), and just about any other far eastern city I've been in, Manila, Seoul, Shanghai, etc. How on earth do they trace a fault, or do they just run another cable? %)
I'm also enjoying your posts, although they may have been better under one heading. Nevertheless, keep them coming O0

Didn’t the BBC Nature do a programme on some primates living on these wires. If it was it was stunning as they explained how they filmed it and the troubles following the troop on these wires.
