Title: Twin ASD/Schottels
Post by: funtimefrankie on September 08, 2007, 08:14:16 am
Whats the best radio set up for the above, one channel for each function?
Is there anything to be gained having independent steering on each?
Does a mixer help?
Thanks
Frank

...Hi Frank...

I have my "SCOTCH PRIDE" shoalbuster tug on Seperate Channells & Speed Controllers for each Function...I find it much easier to manouvre in tight spaces this way...

Its a case of what you prefer, But having worked on the real tugs I think it has its advantages in seperates especially in windy conditions, Both in model & real tugs...

Both motors through one speed controller is OK but i would recommend a stronger than usual Bow Thruster when operating in this way...

Why you might consider two throttle and two steering on ASD schottel drives...

If you can get 180 degree steering on the drives, you can use Fwd/Rev to achive the thrust vectors in the image below, originally posted by Boatfox... Crabbing is the tricky one... ;)

I think it depends on the size of the model.
I have had a Tito Neri, and there both units had their own speed controller and steering servo.
But at a model of a Damen ASD 3011 in scale 1:50 ( model length 60cm) both units were steered by one servo but each motors had its own speed controller
A model of this size becomes very nervous with a same arrangement like a Tito Neri.

I'm using a MMM Nangee hull. The drives will return to center when stick(s) are let go, like a rudder.
I think to start with a channel for each function.

It's had a quck sit in the test tank, just to see what current the motors draw, not bought ESC yet.
I've fitted a bow thruster, by the way.

That has more to do with setting the springs on your transmitter doesn't it?  ;)
