Title: Sailing in Weird (or Strange, or Exotic, or Wild, at least Original) places
Post by: romainpek on September 09, 2007, 02:07:08 am
The Rules are simple : you must take a picture of your model boat sailing in an unexpected place.

No photoshopping, the pics must be real !  ;)

I start with what I did yesterday :

-found a lake next to a Great Wall section
-found a real motor boat that was OK to take me for a ride together with my model sailboat
-made the real boat wait a few minutes a the right place so I could steer my sailboat in the proper position so my wife could take a picture.

So there you are : pic caption would be "sailing a Monsoon on the Great Wall of China"

I haven't got any pics but I sailed on, or to be more accurate about 1.5 feet above, our local cricket pitch about 30 years ago when the river overflowed. Boat was Silak with OPS .60.
No talk of global warming, etc. in those days.

The picture is buried away somewhere, but when I was building my conservatory around 25 years ago the trench I dug for the foundations flooded from a high water table, enough to float my boat!

pete nice to put a face to the name :) as for the me, the most unique place I have sailed on is the canal, which isn't that Unique, however for an ENGLISH boat to be on a SCOTISH canal, does that count?

Did you take it through the locks or carry it around them?

it was an epic sail, some 15 yrs ago, it was all done for a local hospital charity, the event fell on the same dates as beale park so as we sailed past we called in and collected our collection boxes...we had 2 full size support boats, we took about 7 model  boats on the trip and always had 2 model boats in the water at any one time, we sailed into some locks, but it was dependant on the lock keepers, some did not like the ideas of models in there with hoseasons hire boats and inexperienced skippers....
it did get abit hairy a couple of times if you strayed near the weirs !
