well I didn’t know until my mate bought one for his son that this was even a project for Lego. So I bought one and have been building it with my eldest niece, Willow, for the last two days. She’s certainly enjoying it and who knows what it’ll lead to in the modelling world, she likes making things!
Modules one and two made from 10 bags of Lego, two more bags to go to make the command module and the lander. It weighs a lot! It has 1969 pieces in it, which obviously has some connections with the Apollo project.

Both my wife & I are Lego nuts.
She has the Lego railways & I do Lego Technic truck trialling.

I had no idea Lego did this either. Wow!
I remember enjoying building the Airfix Apollo Saturn V model back in the day.
I also remember envying my brother's Revell Gemini capsule model kit. It seemed awesome to me.

My colleague at work collects Starwars lego and has a Tie fighter (Baddies) X-Wing (Goodies) and both an old and new Millennium falcon models (Er Goodies).
That Saturn Five already looks epic. How old is Willow, is she old enough to be pulling her weight or still 'being supportive' allied to spending quantity time with cool uncle Nick while he builds it?

Well probably a bit of both :}
She is 4.5 years old but she already surpasses some of her peers in building and amazingly her understanding of how things work is amazing - when we finished building the rocket this evening there were some tiny mini figures to put on the display next to the lander- she knew that they had to be inside the rocket to get to the moon but was most disappointed that Lego hadn’t put a cockpit in the command module! She often gets into my room when I’m away and plays with Lego- she knows not to touch the models- and more often than not I know she’s dismantled them in some way and put them back together, unless Dad goes in after her and rebuilds them! :D

Nick: When she's older I have no doubt she may be building that Dutch hybrid battlecruiser you mentioned earlier.

I casually mentioned a nice little fishing boat r/c model which I bought last year, she still asks if it’s ready for sailing every weekend! She knows it’s for her! :-))

It's like when people do trialling with their Land Rovers & specials over muddy rough terrain - but it's done with Technic Lego models over a course laid out with flags - usual rules apply like time penalties if you clip a flag.
The models are about 1/14 scale and have to have a cab and load area like a real truck. You can add as many extra functions as you like - locking diffs, air suspension, auto gearboxes - you wouldn't believe what you can create with Lego.
