I was in Fort Macmurray, Canada a few years ago at -15 C. It didn't feel nearly as cold as yesterday in Peterborough at -5 C. There is no moisture in the air so it's a dryer cold. That said in Canada it did rain and the road was suddenly one large sheet of  ice.  <:(

The first day of spring!

Spring is sprung,
The grass is riss,
I wonder where my lawnmower is?

Spring is sprung,
The grass is froze,
I wonder if my snowplough goes?

We're all going on a winter holiday
No more boating for a week or two.
Fog and rain on our winter holiday,
No more sunshine for me or you,
For a week or two.

We're going where the sun shines rarely
We're going where the fog is gray.
We've not seen it on the movies,
Now let's hope  we can see.

Everybody has a winter holiday
Doin' nothing at all
So we're going on a winter holiday,
To make our retirement come true
For me and you.
For me and you.

Saw quite a few photos yesterday of the fishing boats off Scotland and all are starting to ice up , not as bad as in Denmark though

Cripes, that looks bleak. Crewkerne has snow and light wind. We had stronger wind this morning blowing loose snow around.

I copy this from the French The Red - new model marine site ....thank you Camaron  {-)

9:00 am I make a snowman.

9:10 AM A passing feminist asks me why I made a man and not a woman.

9:15 To make him happy I make a snow woman next to my man.

9:30 My neighbor, very puritanical, comes to complain that I gave the woman a chest too voluptuous.

9:40 am A homo couple regret that I did not make two snowmen.

9:45 am Vegetarians from No. 12 criticize the nose made with a carrot, it is a vegetable and not an object of decoration.

9:55 am They call me racist because my couple is only white.

9:58 AM A passing Muslim wants me to put a veil on the woman.

10:00 A police patrol alerted by the rally comes to see what happens.

10:03 They ask me to remove the broom from the snowman that could be used as a weapon by thugs. I will not have to tell them that next time it's in their c ... that I'll push it.

10:10 Handcuffed, I am put in the salad basket and taken to the station.

11:00 am Check my identity, my background, my reputation.

11:10 The commissioner asks me if I have accomplices.

11:15 am The radio announces the arrest of a terrorist group that planned an attack using a snow structure ... ..

MORALITY: when there is snow, STAY AT HOME!

Yup! I wouldn't recommend it though, it's not the most comfortable of things to wear!

In other news, I had a lot of fun with my 1/10th scale car in the carpark of my place, to the point of later sticking a floodlight up and had a few night rally stages with a few mates!

Just returned from 3 days on Isle of Skye working on a water main line.  No snow whatsoever but static air temps -4oC, we were down below -15 with wind chill!  Most things we were working on froze up, I left 2 test gauges out for 5mins before I could fit them, they lasted 10sec before the whole line froze!!!

....don't taunt me with these type of pics!  I'd rather be back boat-work dealing with sat / nitrox divers any day.  I used to really enjoy bad weather.  Working onshore sucks big time!!!!

Out in the North Sea, everybody fears the storms... except the divers who can't wait for the paycheque!  :}

Nothing used to make me feel more alive than waking up in the cabin in the dark when we took a big wave, I was half off the bunk almost on the floor in the dark with gravity going the wrong way, everything spilling off shelves, shower water bubbling up in and fillig the cabin.  So long as you waited long enough and things went roughly right enough you were ok.

...We were a very heavy weather capable boat, old skool with long term record.  We spent allot of time riding weather than going home in and out like everyone else in the area seemed to.

...But in 2009/2010 winter I used to work in Finland where we had -40oc.  When I came home to uk we had massive snow (theres a newspaper picture digging me personally out of 2 feet before any drifts!).  It felt warm to me for a while until the wet kicked in. I had -18 recorded on my dash driving on the high ground.

So we in the UK have had this type of weather before.  But 2 weeks constant talking about it beforehand we could prep for it, warnngs and prep before, everyone seems to be surprised when it comes.

They've done it again! "Wrong kind of snow" was funny, but telling passengers they are holding the trains up after two hours waiting on a "dead" train, is bl**dy insulting.

Don't think aluminium catamarans will repair so that's 2 scrap there and they cost about half a million plus to replace with new...

My good friend who is currently deployed with me to Akrotiri drew this in his time off- it accurately reflects what conditions in sunny Cyprus are really like in the winter months on the peninsula! We’ve asked him to get them printed for the squadron as tour prints. A stunning artist in our opinion.
