Title: How strong is the Aeronaut Ramborator?
Post by: Terry on March 03, 2018, 10:11:17 am
Hi all.
Thinking of building one of these, but having downloaded the parts list it all looks a bit flimsy. Hull sides 2mm thick, hull bottom 1.5mm thick. Considering the weight of ballast etc. doesn't seem very strong. Any comments please.

Cheers, Terry

It's a Springer Tug. (google)

I would have a go with 3mm plywood at scratch building it yourself.  There are plenty of descriptions in the springer section.

You won't weight down one of these below the waterline.. :}

cheers

If you go thicker on the hull bottom, you may have problems bending the ply to shape.

I'll go along with this.  Perhaps a thinner piece for bending the bottom section with a heat gun.
