Post by: pipster on March 13, 2018, 01:41:54 pm

Has anyone got pii for their club recently? We've a new committee at our club and need to renew our pii but have limited funds. Any pointers gratefully received.
Thanks

ps we dont insure our club hut as it comes under the council! this is what normally bumps up the insurance. ours is 3rd party PLI, at any event that the club attends.

Our insurance for PLi  for 2018 19 is now set at 10 million. Having checked with our local council they are acting on advice from the insurance industry. This may be a sign of things to come and like most councils they will ask for proof of insurance before we can carry on enjoying our hobby.

Stan ........ you got me intrigued, so I've just done some research. There is no blanket recommendation from the Insurance Industry for the adoption of a 'standard' £10M cover for PLI.
I've had previous experience with councils asking for cover higher than the current 'standard' of £5M and have been involved in situations whereby they have had to back down.
We as a Club have £5M cover for which we pay less than £200.

Hi Steve we have to abide by the council decision. If we did not up our P L I then they will not allow us to operate. We have now wish to challenge them on this matter. How many members are you insuring out of interest? May do some checking

Hi Stan ....... sorry for my slow reply. I fully understand your position with regard to the council. Life is tricky when you are stuck between a rock and a hard place. We too operate in a council park and make sure we don't 'rock the boat'  (pun intended !!!!)
We currently have 38 members (including 3 honorary).
Cheers
Steve.

We pay about the £400 mark for covering 100 members, so it is comparison with Steve at 38 members at £200, nemesis

HI Steve thank you for getting back to me. Insurance of all kinds can at times drive you nuts but it is something we have to have. Happy sailing.
