Title: Help with keel construction
Post by: sprit on March 21, 2018, 12:26:11 pm

Hi, I am presently building an old Thames barge kit, Speedline very kindly sent me the instructions for their newer version, Annie. I have the bulb ready to glue together but on the instructions it calls for a bolt to be glued into the weighted end. The bolt length would be insufficient to extend beyond the fins length. Is it really needed as it will pass through a centre board box, which when sailing, the keel is held in position by wire passing through the fin and the box. Possibly have already answered my question, very new to all of this
Regards Ian.

As belt and braces I put a bolt through the keel and bulb and faired it in with body filler.

Exactly as I did on my Thames barge with the bolt coming through the deck, secured with a nut
In the shape of a bollard to hide the fact.
