Title: When to water cool Motors?

Hello..


Ive been reading a little about RC motor cooling.
But cannot seem to find any info as to when this is advisable to install?
Should this be installed on all model boats, or is this for racing boats?

Feeding water to a motor inside the boat always runs the risk of loading the boat with unwanted water.  The only time a motor needs cooling is when it is being asked to do more than it should.  Normally, that only happens in a high performance racing boat.  Anywhere else, it is possible to fit the right motor, which won't need cooling.

Yep my friend normally it is not necessary.
But if you really want one you can get water cooling systems, but it is just raise the complexity.

Unless you are into extreme racing then excess heat in the motor simply means that energy that should be going into propulsion is being wasted. As Malcolm says, with the right driveline combination, cooling should be unnecessary.

Remember that with outrunner brushless motors it isn't the temperature of the large outside bell that matters but rather the temperature of the bit that remains static.

Using an aluminium plate as a heat dissipating motor mount is never a bad idea although normally nnecessary.

Yes as others have said, 'scale' type boats  "shouldn't" need cooling, if it does, something is wrong, eg. motor too small, propeller too big, voltage too high, prop shaft tight or bent....

Or the shafts are not aligned properly,l try keep the motor shaft and the shaft aligned as much as it is possible.


Anyway if you have an airing hole somewhere on the superstructure the hull could have an airvent, more not necessary.
Plus add a fuse before the motors, in any case, I mean the prop collect some rubbish etc...
