Title: 2 motors or 1 biggie?
Post by: tonyH on September 12, 2007, 04:17:46 pm
Hello All,

My son has acquired an ex-school project speedboat based on a 1 metre MFA chine hull with mahogany deck, stringers etc. glued, nailed and screwed together. The whole thing was just a touch heavy and driven by a very sound MFA 850 and a single 21/2" prop.

He's stripped everything down to the bare hull and wants to try making his own design double jet drive.

The motor runs on 12 volts at about 6000 revs max. so the question is, would it be worth gearing the motor up to drive both jets from a single input or should he just forget the motor and have 2 540's or similar with individual jets?

Any advice please?

Tony

If it was me I would ditch the single and go double jet drives drain a lot of power from the motor so I would use 2x 9.6v 700 running on 12v that should give a nice turn of speed and be better than twin 540s on that application O0
