Title: The colour of wire?
Post by: sinjon on September 13, 2007, 08:27:32 am
I have a number of reels/winches to paint.
What is a realistic colour to paint the wire/cable ?

I'd use Humbrol "Gunmetal" if you can get it, or something similar which gives a metallic mid to dark grey colour.

Thanks Colin,
I'll dash up to my model shop and see if they have any.

Another idea is to twist a few lengths of 5amp fuse wire into a "rope" and use it as a false covering..then let it rust naturally and it will really look lifelike.

Picture hanging wire is very effective and looks like a proper cable.

Paint it with gunmetal and then a dark wash and pull it through a rag and it looks perfect.

as a lot of winches use STAINLESS or GALVANISED wire, usually galvanised its cheaper, then gunmetal painted picture hanging wire will do the job.
