Title: New Build - Type 22 kits or Ticond class cruiser?
Post by: Holmsey on September 14, 2007, 09:39:11 pm
I am in the envious position of having two models to build!!!!
Paul PSShips is going to deliver one of his full Type 22 kits to me on Monday and I have just won a half price Ticonderoga class cruiser on his prize thread. Which one to do first. I am having trouble getting good detail pics of Type 22s and not yet decided which one to build. After seeing David Browns Cornwall I might try that one. Maybe a trip to Plymouth would be a good idea. As far as the Tico is concerned, I love all their names but I want to do an in service East Coast ship.
Anyone got an oppinion on which to do first!!!!!!!
More importantly any one got any good detail pics of specific units!!!!
Don't mind trading some back.

Holmsey
Get some good pics of the mainmast, what an absolute P*g.
Is she the 1/72 Scale or 1/96?
I will look and see what I have, but think I gave it all away when I sold her, I had Chatham at 1/72.

Hello,
For the Tico/Aegis Cruiser try this site http://www.navsource.org/
Finding updated pictures of the Tico can be hard to find on the net. Unlike the Burkes they have stayed fairly consistent on modifications.

Best Regards,
Sean

Hi ya there Holmsey

If you are going to build the Type 22 batch 3 try and get hold of 'Modern Combat Ships number 4' by Leo Marriott - ISBN No. 0711015937 - I picked mine up from Ebay for £4 quid

Build her light up top.
They sail well when correctly ballasted.

Hello,
If Bob was talking about the type 22 on the light build on top that also goes the same for the Tico. I know some ballast the keel with lead/BBs. I know some go the extreme and drill out every single fitting and build the superstruc. and mast in plasitc. I am sure Paul can talk about the top heavy tico better since he has built a few. I think if you keep the ballast as low as possible you would be safe.
