When my disability flares up modelling takes a back seat as I am just too tired and also worried of making a mess of anything requiring fine work.
So, with the pain a bit better I was getting bored so turned to what I call a no-brainer model.
Yep...a sunken sub model.
I got another Revell U-99 model cheap off a guy on another forum and set to.
As some of you may know the Revell U-99 is a poor kit, loads of injector pins, flash, warped pieces, over thick railings...but for me, this is ideal.
A wash, slight trim and it was put together in 20 mins, no fuss or worry if glue seeped out of a join.
Damage added to railings and some crumpled hull sections then it was slap the PVA on. I did this in sections and then added a very fine sand and just worked in stages until the model was covered.
When dry I then sprayed with red oxide, I wanted to try something a bit different to the other subs I made and did a pre-shade using satin black on the keel and lower hull as I wanted it more dark.
I then took my time and using the airbrush I built up grey and greens, finally it had a coral/beige sponge on the top sections to show sealife growth. Finally some rust was added.
The last thing was a base made of brass and aluminium.

Cheers Fred, so easy to do and relaxing as you can make a glue bomb regarding construction as some excess glue adds to the overall look.
One thing that I wanted to do was scratch make the pressure hull and then try and hack away at the deck as if the wooden decking had rotted away...alas, cramping hands made that decision kaput {:-{

Hi, love the results, I don't know the details of your health problems, but I have a microphone mount that clamps to a desktop and works like an anglepoise lamp (cost about 20 quid), a Dremel fixed to the end of this gadget could work like a robot arm for cutting away sections of a hull, without needing the pinpoint accuracy of a hand-held tool, and without the direct vibration of holding the tool.
Also, have you looked at the range of textured finishes available from model railway layout specialists? I could see some their coloured lichens and cork crumbs making great imitation sponge and soft coral growths.
How about a tropical sub wreck? Japanese boat? Truk Lagoon?
