It is really useful, but it just too expensive to want to carry around with me. Like many people I have lost several working knives, which is why I never buy expensive ones. A lanyard would help, but I carry enough of the stuff needed for day to day anyway.

I'm not sure if the steel is quite as good as it used to be though.

You can have the most expensive set tools in the world but if your eyes do not send information to the brain and the brain does not send information to the hands then tools are just something to sit on the bench.

Post by: malcolmfrary on July 14, 2018, 10:18:44 am: A Swiss Army credit card size tool kit fits nicely in a wallet and is about as much in the way of tools that should be needed at the pool. If I need that to play boats, I've done something wrong. If I need more that that, it's time and incentive to get it right for next time.
In with the other stuff, it has a mini ball point pen. Not only are the Swiss Army the best groomed fighting force in the world, they can write home to their mums.
Don't know if they are legal or not to get through airport security in hand luggage.

Post by: Colin Bishop on July 14, 2018, 10:46:24 am: Technically, if the blade is less than three inches long it should be OK in hand luggage but I have never put it to the test, it always goes into the hold in my case. If a security guard takes a dislike to it then you've lost it. I suspect airports will differ on how strict they are. In Cairo last year there were three separate security checks before they would let us on the plane. It was quite reassuring.

the grit stays razor sharp for many years.

My modelling/DIY skills improved, gaining a higher level of finish and accuracy after buying Perma-grit blocks and files,
I would be lost without them.

Yesterday's decorating/DIY - used my aluminium sanding block to adjust mitred angles on delicate
Kraft paper skinned polystyrene ceiling coving, the blocks rigidity and sharpness enabled sanding this strange modern product
to a beautiful crisp edge without tearing the paper surface - wonderful kit !

Ideal for the diffficult job of shaping model boat hull hardwood chine/deck stringers -
again the sharpness slicing through spruce etc very easily.
