Mine's a sweltering 35.5 Degrees Celsius, in the shade. Can anyone beat that?
Charlie

Currently 38.8, with both windows and door wide open. Has been up to 43 once last week.
-
All windows and doors open, current indoor temp 37, outdoors in full sun 44. The joys of living in Spain! you've not lived until you are asleep on your feet because its still too hot to lay down in bed. Many are the nights I have got up several times and jumped in the shower to cool down. Last year I took it to extremes and was swimming in the pool at 3am just because it was so hot.
-
Disgustingly hot here today at RAF Akrotiri! On average we’re getting in the high 30s but our intake temp probes have registered 46 and at one point 51!!! And that’s on an aircraft that didn’t have engines running!
I know last out here in August it hit 52 on the pan and I was drinking close to 4 litres of water an hour- not good! No wonder I lost three stone in weight! It’s not just the heat, the humidity has been awful at night, especially working in a metal hangar.
-
haven't a clue, but I really should turn my heaters off {-) {-) {-) wasting electricity..... {:-{ :((

Come on, who can remember?
It ain't arf hot mum?
My studio is on a mezzanine and it must have been around the early thirties today. I took my boots off and sat with them on an aluminium plate placed on the floor. A big grey cloud went over and did nothing except make it a bit cooler.

Does anyone remember the good old days when it used to rain all through July.
-
Don't worry, it won't last.... The schools are now on summer holidays so the rain is on its way..

The mid to high 30s is indeed very hot for the UK, but a normal summer here. Somehow even 28 seems hot in Britain, I have been there when it was that hot and it seemed much hotter than a similar temperature here at home. Perhaps it's because the buildings aren't designed to cope with high temperatures? We are in the middle of our winter at present and, while the morning temps are from -1 to 3, it warms up to the low to mid 20s, and we live in the sub tropics. It's much colder in southern NSW and Victoria, as well as on the tablelands to the west of us.
Peter.

I REMEMBER in Canberra, Peter it was so cold in the mornings that on two consecutive days it registered -13 and -15 before warming up to a balmy +15...……..and on the coldest of the two days it was so cold that it froze the oil filled steering box on my '51 MG TD, and reversing out the drive I shot up the rockery bed of the neighbours house over the road, being unable to steer............who says it doesn't get cold in OZ, {-) %%

78F/26C in my shop in Tomball, Texas, USA. ;) 100F/38C outside. <:(
Howzat? Air conditioning! :-))
-
Here in Denmark I got 33°C outside and 29°C in the workshop %%
No AC in the house and the heat will continue the next week at least, one is only allowed to use propane BBQ's due to the drought and danger for flash fires, and yes everything is now brown.
Last year were one of the wettest and coldest summers in DK and this year has already broken several records as the driest and warmest in many years.
I have had to buy a vine-refrigeratory to protect my vine <*<

It's very cold in Canberra now Neil, although there's a lot of hot air coming from Parliament House......as usual {-) . However, Canberra is 900 km south of us.

Got up at 7 this morning its been a horrible sticky humid night. Temperature in the lounge has stuck at 33c all night even with leaving every single window in the house open. Will get much hotter inside today once the sun starts cooking the outer walls of the house again.
I do wish we had aircon!
-
Hi it's John V i know when it's going to rain in Peterborough on Ron Deans open day cheers John V
-
Time to resurrect this thread i think. -6 degrees for me today, i don't think i will be getting much done <:(
Anyone else either very cold or very hot? (i'm thinking about some of our members down under for this)
Charlie

37°C in Canberra. It can get up to 47°C.
Jerry.

We are not sure what to expect in Oz.
Severe floods in Queensland, Drought in N.S.W. and last evening we had gales, thunder and lightning and torrential rain for an hour in Melbourne but it did not put out the bushfires. >>:-(
Temperatures this week from 47 c. to 15 c. %%

Whilst wondering what to make when in the doldrums - why not make your own aircon device, it should be relatively simple.
A car battery
a car radiator fan
a car window screen wash pump
flexible tubing
a cloth mat
basically - build two trays to hold water (garden planters say window sill type), build a frame that holds one at the top and one at the bottom, with the car radiator fan held between, the tubing connects both with the washer pump in the circuit, the top tray has a small cut out along the top of one edge where the cloth mat is fixed to hang over so it falls into the bottom tray, the slot is deeper than the mat) the battery 12v transformer powers the fan and the pump.
the top tray is filled with water to the brim, as it is soaked up by the mat it soaks the mat and if the water overflows the slot it then flows down the mat until it completely soaks it and then fills into the bottom tray, the pump then takes the water to the top tray, filling the top tray so it completely soaks the mat is the main idea, the fan then blows air through the mat, cooling any air, the circulating water then keeps refreshing the wet mat, just need to have a porous cloth mat to allow the air to pass through and an auto water refill for the top tray due to evaporation and water blown off by the fan.
Any thoughts?

A nice comfy 21 degrees in my indoor workshop right now.
Looking out the window I can't help thinking "God help (model) mariners on a night like this"

Nice! I dream of one of those. Maybe one day when the kids move out.....

I went for a run up to our local lake yesterday, and it was 70% frozen. I would think it is completely frozen over this morning. Whenever it does this i think it would be so cool to have an RC Icebreaker out doing it's stuff. But i have never got around to building one yet! Maybe this year.....

-5°C in Peterborough this morning, threats of snow.
Really dodgy driving to work... so drove very quickly before I had an accident!
-
Not sure what it was this morning - I haven't been out there. Yesterday it was 5 degrees, and that's in a fully insulated, double glazed construction, with a 120 watt heater running 24/7.
Soon warms up with a 2 Kw fan heater.

We have tried that with tugs.
The ice is one of the best paint removers around.
Anchors also succumbed to the ice.

It's no good bashing the ice. Full size icebreakers ride up on thick ice and use the weight of the ship to crack it and push it under and away. I suspect you might have scaling down problems with that approach on a model.
Colin
-
Simple answer r ddy freezing.

Don't break the ice, enjoy it. Get yourself an airboat and go whizzing around at high speed. That's what I did today at our club morning. My home-brewed airboat was slaloming around at all sorts of crazy angles, steering was a bit hit and miss, but oh boy, was it fun! Everything was going great until........
Ooooops...... :(( :((

That's the problem with a concrete wall round the lake - it leaps out at you and spoils your fun! Oh well, nothing a bit of filler won't fix. :embarrassed: :embarrassed:

Current temp -12deg shed is 5mts x 6mts height to ridge approx. 5mts , supper efficient pellet boiler in the corner ,GIVES OF NO EXTERNAL HEAT = no shed work .

my workshop is either the kitchen table (21 degrees C) or the conservatory which has the benches and tools, (5 degrees C) no heating, but it acts as an insulation barrier for the house, absorbing all the heat thrown out from the walls, the house, well since we had the cavity walls done the whole house is heated from a single radiator in the downstairs toilet, maybe 2 foot square, set to 2 , and that keeps it a comfy 21 degrees downstairs. upstairs there is the heated towel rail, plus the hot water pipes to the boiler under the floor. which keeps that a comfortable 19-20 degrees. the only problem is in the summer when the conservatory can top out over 40 degrees.
-
0 degrees in Plymouth this morning.
-
Zero degrees in West Kent as well. Much milder than yesterday. Only a very small amount of snow last night.
-
Minus four. ...with the oil radiator on. <:(

I'm lucky I have a 10m2 room i the house as work shop and as some may have seen I also use the dinning table :-)) So the temperature is 21-22°C.
-
74 F with the A/C on. :-))
Let's see, that's about 23 C?
-
It’s been around 35 to 40 Celsius in my shed for the last couple of months, good for losing weight 🤪
Peter.
-
43 degrees in my shed today!
-
As the sun is in cloud this morning we are only just at 30C. The sun is supposed to appear after lunch so goodness knows where we will end up which will be far too hot for me.
-
43 degrees in my shed today!
Jepers, I thought it was hot while driving home y'day in a temp. of 'only' 34 deg C! {:-{
-
Luckily my workshop is indoors, so "only" 31.5 degrees
-
We're at 27 degrees - not terrible but not encouraging me to get busy. Cold drink & TV today.
-
27 degrees indoors at work, with the aircon trying flat out to cool it (we have a huge metal almost flat roof) warmer outside, yesterday when I arrived home at 6.30pm it was still 35 in my workshop, 29 indoors
-
78F/26C over here in my shop in Tomball, Texas. 90 to 95F outside, heat index well above 100F.
How can my shop be nice and cool? Dedicated air conditioning running smoothly. :-)) %)
-
27°C in the workshop and 32°C on the terrace, think it's time for a "radler" in the shadow

Well there's the difference! We would normally consider 26C as very warm, if not hot. When it gets to 20c out come the shorts, much to my wife's chagrin %%

25c in my little workshop, so not too bad.
To equalise body temperature we're having a curry this evening 😋
Home made of course!

85 here in my Norfolk model room but I've been busy fitting in filler on my tiger heat won't stop me -----YET and the missus came up and gave me a nice cool ice cream

Just come out of the greenhouse of a cockpit on the Hercules C-130 at Brize! The temperature registered on the onboard computers said it was 46 degrees C outside! God only knows what the cockpit temperature is! This is getting silly! %%
-
Just been in there to nick the fan to use in the house. It's 46.1°C, and that's with the blinds down and both doors open. Work has been suspended for the day! I feel the second G&T coming on very soon...

It's a balmy 31 degrees in my shed today - can anyone in the UK beat that?

1 below freezing then, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. ok2

My shop is currently a cool 17c, I’m fortunate That the side of the house it’s on is in constant shadow by the neighbours fence, and I leave the window open to air the dust and fumes out. It might be insulated but insulation works both ways when a heater isn’t on. 😎

New record high in my shop today! #globalwarming

My workshop is the dormer it's just too hot to spend any time up there, the 15" fan dose nothing at all, just as well I'm waiting for a kit at the moment, we've got a free standing AC unit in our bedroom we bought ten years ago so our room is ice cold overnight and I often go in there during the day for a cool down, worth it's weight in gold. ;)

32C/90F in mine at the moment. I'm not in it!

It’s disgusting here at RAF Brize Norton Herc area. My car temperature sensor said 38.5 driving around to the squadron car park. The reflected heat and brightness from the concrete pan is horrible- I’m wearing desert overalls (we call them denims) simply because they are thinner than the standard olive green denims. We can barely touch the skin of the aircraft at the moment!

In my workshop it can not be much over 20°c even though the outside temp reaches 39°c
It's nice to have a basement... :-)) :embarrassed: :embarrassed:

Here in Tomball, Texas my ship is 74 F/23 C. Outside it's 100 F, with a "feels like" temperature of 114.
'Course the shop temp is with the (thank God for) air conditioning on. %) :-))

In Canberra it’s 7°C.
Jerry.

Same here in Melbourne! Top of 16 and that's more than it has been for a while. {:-{

Only 10C in Hobart, Tasmania !!!
That's south of Australia, the heart shape one!!!

My wife's car said 34/35 and that's just the other side of Witney from Brize. Plenty of your planes flying over us the last few days, if they could just come down a few more feet I think we'll get a nice cool breeze from the props as they pass overhead!

One of my Hercules jumps without equipment was on Downholme moor in temperatures like we currently have and a normal 30 seconds to the ground took nearer a minute due to thermals %%
I hoped it would last all day {-)

There is a cricket/grasshopper on our kitchen windowsill, south facing, that looks like it was baked to death in the sun <:(

40.6°C about 30 mins ago when I popped out there to check something. I didn't stop long.

We’ve now got heavy rain and thunderstorms at Brize!

More weather problems
Victoria copped a storm yesterday afternoon. 2100 requests for assistance and lots of damage to houses. 4 killed by falling trees.
Emergency map still shows lots of work needed. We can break the 'stay at home' order to get tools and materials for repairs.

A balmy +7C tonight, a big improvement on -10C last week (it was -17C outside!). At least I remembered to bring all my water based paint and glue inside so no harm done.
Stay safe, stay warm.

I grew up in the US deep south and learned to drive in the same place in the 1970s - I am not going to make the same mistake typical of visiting Yankees, I'm smarter than that. :}
And now I live in the central midwest where we are going to have,Saturday Sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 99. South southeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.
Google says that's, 33.8 C and 37.2 C
About an hour ago got email from Julie over there in Surrey County and she commented, after converting C to F,
Hotter than Barbados!I see that (town where I live in MO) is expecting to be 1 degree warmer than (town where she lives) tomorrow at 96.8F. It was around 93.2F/34C here & set to be even hotter tomorrow. Most of the UK is experiencing drought now, and many areas, apart from Surrey so far, are on water restrictions. Looking forward to the heavy rain they’ve predicted for Tuesday/Wednesday next week.
But I seem to Not Be smart enough to figure out how for that to not be all in one big quote block. What did I do wrong?
Have gone back multiple times and manually put the end quote marker at end of what Martin said but the BB code software seems to remove it when I click save.

A while back I was thinking of how to cope with the heat and decided to alter my days. I was up before 5 in the morning and working on the latest model. So a morning's work took me into 9 or so and I thought to see how it went from there. Pleased with the result at the end of the day, off to bed early and slept well.
The next day I was b****y knackered! So that idea went on the pile of 'good ideas / also rans'.
Another idea I had toyed with was to use a couple of bed sheets on the roof of my shed to reflect more of the sun's rays. There is usually no wind when it is hot so minimal needed to keep them in place.
Anyone else tried any preventative measures?
I do have a window and a door open at the same time, if you want a draft it has to have somewhere to go. What about a fan blowing air over cold water? You might have to wear wellies, just in case!
At home we are up early half-five or so, (well my wife is!) and open the doors to allow a blow through of cooler air. Then draw the curtains on the sunnyside. We face East at the back and west at the front.
In the car I run the air con on closed circulation as it can't cope with these temperatures, also if I wear shorts I have a white hand towel across my exposed legs. It then goes over the steering wheel when parked.
It looks like we are going to live with these temperatures for quite a while now.
Perhaps ideal for your own solar panel system? You can buy complete systems as sold to boat owners.
The club has had Solar panel lighting in use for our storage containers for a few years now.
Best to accept and adapt.
Kind regards
Roy

Living where I do, in north east NSW, our summer temperatures are routinely in the mid 30s, so I’m used to that. However, I’ve found as I get older, it’s the humidity that affects me, whereas I can tolerate dry heat. My 12 metre by 6 metre farm shed, part of which is my hobby workshop, is colourbond steel, and can get very hot, so I have a couple of fans that circulate the air, making it tolerable. It also has big sliding doors for tractor access, and numerous windows, but on the really hot days I’ve found it much more comfortable to retreat to the air conditioned comfort of the living room😁. We have a 6 Kw solar system on the roof of the house that helps pay for the running of the air con. If all else fails, there’s always the swimming pool O0
Peter.

Having both an air conditioner and a shop in the basement is a blessing. This summer we're hitting high twenties regularly, more with the humidex, but overall not as bad as it could be. Last year it hit mid-to-high thirties without any humidity and the sidewalks in my neighbourhood buckled two feet upwards in places from the expansion.
