Hi Martin
It's the first time I've tried to post pictures and only managed to get one on but I think I've sorted it noe

It's a sarikhobbies 1/20 hull and plans with the cabins being scratch built from various thicknesses of plasticard and brass tube/wire.
It's taken about a year on and off to get it where it is now.
Here are a few more pictures. The first couple are the basic hull and cabins and the rest have the details like vents etc added and everything undercoated ready for paint.

Hi Neil
I will. I was going to put some pictures on earlier in the build but have only today worked out how to put pictures on plus it's been a slow build due to work and family commitments.
I am basing it on the Whitby lifeboat I have had the decal made by David Leftley .

Thank you both for your kind words. I will post some more photo's when I get a bit further. I am hoping to get the hull and superstructures painted this week then start painting and fitting the exhausts and hydraulic rams.
I will also post some photos of my Waveney Class boat I recently finished if anyone is interested.

Spent the last couple of days painting the hull and cabins. It's now beginning to look like a lifeboat  :}
I'm not too sure about the deck colour, I don't know if it's too light, although it should darken when it's matt varnished.

The rectangular holes in the wheelhouse are for the Led's for the deck lights. I plan on having the navigation lights, deck lights, blue flashing light and radar all working.
I will post more photo's when I get some more done

Started making and painting some of the many fixtures and fittings for the Tyne. Firstly the self righting airbags and frame and secondly the rams and cages for the trim tabs and the exhausts. Will post more as I complete various bits and pieces.

Beyno,

for your information, you can of course do what you like, When at Whitby City of Sheffield will never have had the self righting bags ;) :)

Please do not take this as a criticism as the model is fantastic!
Please keep up the build posts, can't wait to see her finished as it's not too often you see a Tyne!

Hi
Thanks for your comments.
I didnt know that luckily when I ordered the decals for it I had a set of Whitby and also a set of Poole station name decals made.
The only reason I picked City of Sheffield to base mine on is I live in Chesterfield so Sheffield isn't too far and I can see the actual lifeboat also I have a Waveney lifeboat which is also based on the ex-Whitby one. And eventually I would like to build a model of their current lifeboat.
I will of course post more pictures when I get a bit further on.

The model got shoved into the loft as I am too busy with the full-size boat at the moment. :(

I have done some tweaks with the plug hull from mike p, I have also drawn up for 3D printing a full set of windows for them.

Best not take over another thread though.

Hi Scott,
Have you actually got any other models in your attic,or elswhere, that you have built yourself? I only ask because with my memory,I cannot remember you posting any photos for others to comment on?
Of course ,I can't comment because I am a cheque book modeller like a few others on here, which means I buy my models. But I do at least have a go at rebuilding them, and refurbishing them, but I feel even https://www.facebook.com/groups/679521972070238/permalink/1954186111270478/ my little experience it is not for me to criticise or rivet count on other peoples builds other than to praise them up for the excellent job they are doing on them

As I have said many times, I never criticise as everyone building is doing much better than I can as I just do not have the time, money and patience at the moment. Full time work, life and sorting out the full sized boat are too much.

Where I know little details of the real boat I had onkybeveo mentioned it to help the person building the nodel. They can do what they like, either way I still enjoy following the build.

Perhaps, I get the hint. I will stop trying to help folks with my experience with the full-size boats.

I think, Scott, its called modellers licence but it does now and then stick in peoples crawe when someone who has yet to build a model on here is telling someone, that is doing a fantastic job that anyone would be ecstatic at, is told that something doesn't belong on a boat due to this or that.

I would be a little pee'd off myself to be honest...…..and it would be like me telling you what to do with your restoration of 50-001, when I haven't got the faintest idea of how to go about restoring a steel lifeboat, or what to put in or on it.

live and let model....….
or as my old grand dad used to say to anyone...……"if tha cans't doo better lad, then go away and show me."

sometimes some things, whether O0 :-)) meant to help or not......come out as being just a tad out of place and big headed.

Just finished the engine cover, bolt detail, by gluing diamonte crystals ( approx 90 per cover ) a long laborious job but well worth it. Next job is painting the deck colour then the hull can be finished with details and decals.

So with Zero knowledge of Tyne Class Life boats.....I am assuming the two engine cover plates would only be for the original installation of the engines......[or and the unfortunate circumstance of an engine failure & had to be removed?]....

So with all routine maintenance [filters, lube work, injectors, turbocharger, exhausts.......etc] carried out under the engine room deck

With all [most] diesel engine applications and the installed Detroit Diesel 92 DDEC V6 engines, the maintenance is hours based, are the engines anticipated with the prescribed maintenance last the projected 20 year life of the vessel without major [removal] overhaul?

I do not know a great deal about the real boats, I can only assume the engine covers were made removable incase of engine failure or major overhaul. I am sure someone a lot more knowledgeable on mayhem would be able to answer your question.
I put them on my model because they are quite a major feature if the deck.

Correct. Most maintenance would be done inside. The DDECs were only fitted in the 1990s, originally, they had GM engines. There are some photos on the web of Ramsgate’s Waveney having an engine change while still on the water, alongside the harbour wall, although it was easier on the Tynes & Waveneys - you have to dismantle half the superstructure on the Trents, Severns and Tamars and on the Arun you take off the deck plates and the superstructure roof to get them out.

Sounds a complicated lift furball, to have to remove a deck section, & 1/2 the superstructure you mention to get an engine back out, even if all of the engine ancillaries' were removed for the lift

Sounds nearly as complicated as me .....in a previous working life, superviising the lifting out of 13 tonne GMLS13 Missile Launcher O0 from one of our RAN Destroyers  .........

Back from my holiday and been concentrating on the hull. Fendering fitted, lining done, boat number and station name applied. Just the grab lines and depth markings to do, and then the prop shafts and rudders can be reinstalled,  I can then move onto detailing the main cabin.

I have been working on the raised platform and safety rails behind the main cabin for the last week or so. Progress has been slow as my pipe bending and soldering aren't my strongest points , but I am pleased with the results. I have made it with working hinged entry/exit barrier and also the mid section lifts out like on the real boat. Just needs painting the appropriate colour.

that is a beautifully constructed set of raised gratings and brass work Beyno………..this build just gets better and better, no fuss, no histrionics, just beautiful work...……..I applaud you sir...…...a masterclass in good scratch building.

it also shows that you don't have to spend hundreds and hundreds of pounds to buy the "best" equipment to make your boat look and go better. This model is a true statement of modesty and what CAN  be built from a general workshop clutter and basics to hand. it stands up to any model that I see on here, including my own efforts.

I LOVE IT.!

After no doing much building for the last week or so I have started making the windows. I originally purchased a full set of windows from Mac's Mouldings and although there is nothing wrong with them I didn't feel prototypical. Each of the new windows consist of 4 pieces of plasticard sandwiched together. Although each one takes about 1 hour to produce I think it is worth it.

I haven't posted any updates for a while but I have still been building. I finished the mammoth job of making, painting and fitting the windows. I have also given the boat its name and done a bit more detailing work. I have also fitted the prop shafts, props and rudders. Next I will be making the spray screens, aerials and mast. I will post some photos when I get a bit further on.

It's been a while since I posted any pictures of my Tyne build, I haven't been able to spend much time on it recently. I have been making the mast, aerials, spray screens etc. The mast, aerials and spray screens all fold down, as in the real boats, the navigation, deck and blue flashing lights all work and the radar is a modified micro servo that constantly rotates. Next to do is finish off the aerials and a couple of other bits and pieces then it's onto the deck fittings.

I have been busy finishing of the detailing on the main cabin over the last couple of weeks. This has included making and fitting the various aerials, search LIGHTS, boat hooks, windscreen wipers and washer pipes and also the fire hydrant and back rest on the flying bridge.
The liferaft has been made and fitted to the back of the survivors cabin ( it just requires the decals and retaining straps fitting).
The next things to be made are all the various deck fittings.

Hi Beyno,
I have been away from model lifeboat building for some months now [and still will be for the immediate future - possibly], but have just given myself a first look at the Forum again to catch up on matters - and WOW this is a superbly detailed model! You should be well proud of it. On a personal level I really like:
Well, keep up the very good work and this build 'thread' - it is an inspiration to us all and a different model that I will think will inspire many others to build one. Funnily, unlike others, it is not a lifeboat that I have ever enjoyed the shape and lines of, but you have certainly won me over in your superb build here.
Cheers,
Kim - Canterbury Coxswain

I have been working on the stanchions and handrail on the stern of the boat. The stanchions are commercial 2 hole ones but the bases and deck mountings are made from plasticard and tube. The angled stanchions are made from brass rod and have been silver soldered together. This is the first time I have attempted any silver soldering as all the joints on the boat have been soft soldered using a soldering iron. I am pleased with the results and my silver soldering skills are improving with every joint.

Beyno,
More good work. I'm glad you've given silver soldering a go. You're right, as you progress it gets easier and neater at the outset, therefore, requiring less tidying up. Most of the time I use cheap 'swiss' files to tidy, saving the proper Vallorbe ones for my plastic work and kits. However, just recently I bought my first set of micro broacher / reamer files 0.4mm to 1.4mm in 0.2mm increments - six in all. These little files have five flat sides and at this size are virtually round. They do take the metal off well and allow one to get into the angle of joints well. I have just tested them out on neatening up further my upper steering position gate insert on my Shannon lifeboat. I will be posting the new gate insert 're-fettled' later next week on my Shannon build 'thread'. Keep up the good work, that silver soldering is looking fine and will give just a little more strength, should the brass work get a small knock.
Kim [C.C.]
PS - the broacher / reamer file set came from Cooksongold at www.CooksonGold.com in Birmingham. I think they are in the jewellery and silver area of that city and cost £16.72 including £2.65 p&p. Not cheap, but superb little tools that are effective.

Thanks for your comments Kim. I will certainly look at investing in a broacher set looks like they are ideal for getting in all the little nooks and crannies a normal needle file won't.

Some more of the stanchions and life ring holders made and painted ready for fitting to the stern of the boat.

Thanks Trucker for you kind comments.
I haven't updated the build for a while as unfortunately my mum passed away after a short illness a few weeks ago so not much building has been done. But I am now just starting to do bits and pieces again and will post some pictures soon.
As far as the fenders are concerned I purchesed this from ebay ( it is self adhesive D section) I had to give it alight spray with satin black paint as it was a dark grey not black and with it being self adhesive it was easy to fit.
I will pm you the item number if you want

I haven't been able to do anything on the Tyne for a while. But have recently started doing so building again.
I have finished the electronics off, this has included the wiring of the speed controller, fuse boards, motors and battery slitter.
Also all the stanchions have been painted and had their turnbuckles and 'waterproof' covers fitted.
It has also been in the bath for leak testing and everything is ok it just needs a little ballast to bring it level and closer to its waterline.

It's been a while since I last posted any updates of my Tyne build. It's all the little jobs to finish the boat off that take the longest time. I have made both the delta anchor and its guard and the larger ships anchor. And the last two pictures show them both fixed in situ on the boat.
The next task is to 'wire' up the hand rails and safety lines.

I see the dual output ESC in there! Looks neat and tidy, you'll have to advise on how you get on with it, particularly with the mtronics 500 series motors please.

I have just started looking at your build blog. Please can you advise if you put any stiffening formers in the Sarik hull prior to fitting the deck.

Thanks for your interest in my build.
I did use for formers in the hull before attaching the deck. I used 1.5mm plasticard for the actual former then glued 2mm square plastic rod to both sides of the curve this not only makes them very rigid but also gives you a good surface area when glueing the deck. I also glued 2mm square rod to the inside of the hull 1.5mm from the top edge to which the deck is glued. One thing to note is if you cut the hull to the lines on the moulding the top edge of the stern is about 10mm higher than it should be.
The patterns for the formers were copied from a build I found somewhere on the internet all I did was download the image and increased to the right size on my printer. I have included a copy of the formers. Number 1 being the stern.
Hope this helps. If you need any more information please let me know.

The last little bits have now been added to the Tyne and it is eventually finished ( I may add a 'crew' at a later date).
I can now move onto my next build which is a 1/12 scale Mersey lifeboat.
Here are some pictures of the finished boat.

Thanks for your kind comments .
As for the spray screens I just guesstimated them from photographs as I couldn't find any actual sizes , but I will measure the height I made mine and will let you know.
