Title: Quad charger
Post by: Hotglove on August 04, 2018, 08:48:34 am
Any suggestions for a good value quad charger? Alternatively, how do people feel about leaving lipos charged overnight?

Depends where you are charging them and the capacity of the batteries, I always charge
mine using a lipo safe bag and I personally like to keep an eye on mine whilst they are charging.
The battery technology and safety has improved over the years and more people are using lipo,s
now and you don't hear off any incidents nowadays. (I might be corrected about this)                                 It has been a long time since I have seen a Puffed up battery.
There are lots of chargers to choose from just depends on your budget
I have used a Radient ascend a ac/dc peak detection balance charger for 2years no problems.

Thanks for that John, as a novice I have been ultra conservative, kept an eye on charging, never left charged overnight, put in storage mode after each session but have now begun to charge 4 5000mah lipos before a sailing session which can cut down on lake time.
A dual charger alongside my single might be a work around, all advice appreciated.

I did consider once buying a quad charger back when I was flying, but I've not seen one that can charge four 5000mah lipos at 1c at once. Plus it worked out cheaper to buy Imax B6 dual powers and run them on an extension cable.

With regards to charging overnight, I've left things into the night, but if you're charging at 1c (as you should be) it's roughly an hour to charge, then half hour to balance anyway so in most cases there's no need to.

Hi again, my Robbe quad charger charges 4 batteries but one at a time when the first battery is charged it follows onto the next possibly a different battery type Nimh, lead acid,Ni cad.
The only charger I have that charges 2 batteries at the same time is a Nimh charger.

The new version HK Reaktor can do 300w per channel simultaneously. I think this is about the highest out there right now, but it does need a separate PSU if charging at home

Thanks for the input, very helpful. I have settled on the Radient Quartex, which has 4 channels at 80w each.
It was highly recommended by MWM Warbirds at Rochester Airport.
They are enthusiasts who fly a lot of large scale aircraft and reckon that the Radient products give the least problems and are up to professional workloads.
It is whirring away happily as I type so should be ready for the lake this morning in 1/4 the time :-)
