Hi everyone
Some photos of sunny Akrotiri last week when it reached 46 degrees Centigrade!
The dirt is supposed to be grass-just for reference! %%
The last image is what is commonly known as an ouchieand the reason why no one walks around without footwear.

and what is an "ouchie"...
...is it a little spiny creature...
..can't make it out...
looks a wicked little sod lol. <:( O0
-
Don't ya just love  the big exhaust pipe on these state of the art choppers that Nick has been recently maintaining {-)
-
ahhh, the old paraffin budgie as she was commonly and affectionally nicknamed.
-
Looks more like a canary to me {-)

Hi Neil
The ouchie is a seed pod with vicious spikes on them. They are that sharp that they puncture mountain bike tyres! We spend about 10 minutes pulling them out of our boots every day!
-
Nick
At least it beats freezing in the Falklands ! You seem to get posted from one extreme to the other. %%
-
Thats a big bore go faster exhaust for the
boy pilot racers :embarrassed:

never seen those...
...sound vicious...take care with those around.
-
We get something similar in parts of Australia, mainly inland. They are also capable of puncturing a bike tyre, or penetrating rubber thin-soled shoes, and can cause injury to the paws of cattle or sheep dogs. Very nasty things.

peter...
.literally everything that lives and grows in ozz is b*****y dangerous, lethal and hurtful, lol.

I know mate...
..first two endearing things I ever saw was a billboard saying "EAT NOBBY's NUTS"...
.never did find out who Nobby was...
.and the other was a beautiful young lady dressed in a bikini, thongs and a crash helmet......riding a Quacker Z1, 900cc...
...they certainly do breed them tough...
.even the lasses. {-) {-) {-)
-
Just a simple correction and a question my friend.....
The verb [to do] was Nibble those Nuts....[of Nobbys' that is :-X ]
....and was the young curvaceous lass on the Quacker Z1, 900cc wearing a Red bikini?
{-)... Derek

I must agree with Derek, it was definitely "nibble" :-)) The TV ad caused a great deal of laughter at the time. All the Nobbys I knew were often seen wearing leather pants, just in case anyone got peckish {-)
Peter.
-
I concur %%
Although for HOT you should try some Mauritian nibbles

...I worked out in the Gulf of Mexico many years ago: 45deg and 90%+ humidity. Nothing dried when it rained. Unbearable to us not used to it. If we went out on the back deck of the boats I was on gloves were mandatory above any other PPE. Lots of parts on the back deck were hot enough to burn skin on impact.
Releiif usually came at night -30deg but absolutely fantastic lightning shows though!!!
...I take my hat off to anyone who can do heat+humididity!!!!!! I'm sure ex-military guys all can beat my experiences no question!!!
-
Further to Peter's mention of the spikey things here in Oz, they would be the Cat Head Burr or Three Cornered Jack, which is a seed of an evil creeping weed. Very common where I live, unfortunately!
Whichever way these fall or lie, there is always one spike vertical and ready to get you!
These are capable of puncturing motor bike tyres and especially those on the Postie's bikes, and these tyres run "green slime" constantly as a puncture preventative.
They do terrible things to pushbike tyres and go right through rubber thongs ( Flip Flops ).

Not the chuck key Neil????? Surely you've bought a new one by now {-)
Back to the topic, I'm pleased to say that parts of Australia have had some rain, and of course, being winter, it's not hot. However, with 100% of NSW and 70% of Queensland officially drought declared, much more rain is needed.
