Title: Flexible cable trunking
Post by: 17-09 on August 22, 2018, 08:55:19 pm
Hi everyone,
Can anyone help me to find 1/12th scale black corrugated cable trunking found on our modern lifeboats?
The Severn has two sizes of this trunking on the communications mast, 30mm and 40mm. Therefore I will need 2.5mm and 3.3mm outside diameter sizes.
Canterbury Coxswain told me of "Tuner model Manufactory" who produce model car accessories, however they have discontinued this product from their catalogue, they did do it in 2mm.
Any ideas chaps? could it be 3D printed? Any leads will be appreciated

Don't know what lengths you need, but wrapping thin copper wire round the threads of a piece of threaded rod (M2 or whatever you need), cover with heatshrink then unscrew the rod leaving you with convoluted tubing.

Hi Danny, C3PO
Thanks for taking the time to help me here, the smallest available on the ebay sites are 4.5 ID but 7mm OD, much too big for my project.
The idea of wrapping the threads with wire I will try, that sounds like a great answer but I do need quite long lengths of it.
I have been looking at model truck sites as well, just the sort of thing they might use.
  Thanks again

Go to a music shop and look at Round Wound Bass Guitar strings - just what you want.

I use this as flexible conduit on my 1/12 shannon.

Hi all,
The response to this thread has been excellent and thanks to all who have posted their ideas, I have ordered the tube straight away as mentioned by Neil and "The old fart", thanks guys.
I am also off to a music shop this morning to see what the guitar string looks like as suggested by "plastic", the heat shrink tube over a former is still being considered as is the straw idea.
I will keep you all informed as this will benefit all of us.
 Kind regards   17-09

You can google it - just type in round wound bass guitar strings and look at the images.
