I have just started to get the bits together for my type 21 frigate that I got from Paul in Septembers PSS/Mayhem competition.
I have been trawling the web for research and I have not been very successful, Does anybody know of a good source for the type 21?

Hi Folks!
Here's a good site on the Type 21 frigate HMS Ambuscade - lots of photographs, including some taken of her in drydock after she had to have her bow replaced following a collision. Hope it's of some help!

Thanks Glynn,
A very comprehensive site on the 21, I'm just in the planning stage at the moment and I'm trying to work out the best way to set everything out. The superstructure doesn't look very easy to do, unlike the 42's that have 2 main sections. The 21 seems to go the entire length of the ship, so do I try and break it up into smaller parts or build it in one section? I'm thinking of access here to all the electrics and running gear.
I'm hoping that the mayhem crew with some experience with the 21 can help.

I have only ever had 1/72 scale 21's and these had one piece superstructures.
But at this scale topweight isnt so crutial.
I would suggest you ask Paul at PSSHIPS, but do keep the topweight down!!
Bob

HiYa ive done my Active superstructure in one piece up to hangar door, leaving the door fixed to deck,so that the structure butts up to it Alex

Jumpin jack,

Im bet this will turn out to be a ery nice build i quite like the 21's. And im sure paul will be a foutain of knowledge i beleive he is very fond of his 21's.

I cant wait to see this one done either {-)

buildings come to a halt at the moment, cant seem to get hold of the batteries for her... Paul suggested I get a couple of 12v 2.2ah lead acids for her and modelpower havent any in stock...any ideas??
-
Have you tried maplins?
sure whereever you are in the country theres one nearby
-
How deep is she up to your waterline?
Bob
-
As she is at the moment, without any ballast shes about 2 inches I would say off of the waterline.
I'm only going on what Paul suggested to me at the time, I've only got one 6volt battery in my type 42 and that struggles to stay upright. So I'm hoping that this configuration will keep this model more stable in the water.

Jumpin Jack,
What motors are you running her on, seems a bit light in capacity.

Hi all, the system I have suggested he use on our small warships has been used by me on all of them since 1999 and works a treat, no problem with top weight as long as you build that to spec and not with half inch chip board as someone did a few years ago and then blamed the company. Endurance about 4 hours on the motor battery combination that I suggested. Then there is even more scope with endurance on a couple of spare batteries. 12 volt, yes tripple 5 motors, they are very low drain, but, need 12 volts for the speed. I hope this helps. The small thin 12 volt batteries can also be laid into the hull down the centreline to help make sure, you do not cause a lol or a sagging problem by having one big one in the middle of the hull, never mind roll, as batteries are heavier at the base than at the top, well, as far as gell cells go anyway. Looks like I will have to add a few pages to our building guide. Thanks guys! ;)
Paul... :)
-
Paul,
Whose running gear do you use, G, Sitek?
Bob
-
Yes Bob, I do mate, all our stuff come's with George's fine RG now. Well, when asked for. Some people say, "I don't want running gear" for what ever, then George tells me the same bloke has gone to him for it??
HOW BIZZZZZARRRRRRR!?????????????????????????? ???
-
That is only because george does have a good reputation and some like me, arent sure if you use his RG.
Bob
-
All the time now, unless it's a VSD mate. :)
-
Any progress??
-
No progress at the moment... I'm awaiting the arrival of the batteries and i have it on good authority that they are stuck at Gatwick mail centre, So i hope that they will be here next week.

hi ,new on site . have been looking on your topic type21 i know it was 2007 but you seem to have left your build in limbo, as i am hoping to build HMS arrow as 1st project and would like some hints and tips on the build as your photos at different stages are not complete ?
