Title: Premier Ship Models
Post by: Fuglaberg on September 19, 2018, 10:03:07 pm
Hello all, I was just wondering if anyone has purchased from Premier Ship Models in England and if so what your experience was like?.

http://premiershipmodels.co.uk/ (http://premiershipmodels.co.uk/)

I haven't bought anything yet but was just looking for feedback because as one can imagine some models can involve quite a bit of money!.

Also, can anyone give their thoughts on the differences between a plank on wood model and resin?.

Is one better than the other?.

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

 :-)

I know nothing about Premier.

As for hull types, resin versus POF. Unless you mould a resin hull yourself you are reliant on the producer for accuracy (don't ask   >>:-( ) whereas with POF it's down to you. POF is a lot more work but it's yours.
A resin hull allows a quicker build.
I don't think one is better than the other the decision is yours.

Thanks dougal99, I just noticed that for example Premier are POF and build from wood whereas other companies I've looked at build from resin.

The difficult part seems to be acquiring the General Arrangement plans for the VLCC(Phoenix Vigor) I'd like!.

Fuglaberg,
with regard to your idea o building a model based on the VLCC Phoenix Vigor.. Have you tried contacting the owners tech dept? My experience is that they are quite helpful in providing GA drawings as long as you tell them abt your project. My preseent project is a bulk carrier in 1:100 based on drawings obtained from the owners witout a glitch but I did present the project to them in detail.
Good luck!

Hi Claes, what I'm finding difficult is even finding a proper email address!.

I found the Phoenix Tankers website but it isn't the most helpful.

There appears to be several VLCCs with the same design as Phoenix Vigor(Toba, Toyo, Bright Harmony) so I've been trying to find a point of contact with them(even the shipyard that built them) but alas I haven't had much luck there.

Yes, I emailed those addresses but didn't receive a reply.  I may phone as a last resort.

It's the other ships'(Toba, Toyo etc) contact info that is even more difficult to find.
