Title: knowledge nd information please
Post by: Neil on September 20, 2018, 10:05:23 am

I need a small tin of soldering paste, where the "liquid" solder is mixed in with the flux, painted on and then heated up with ither a soldering iron or a kitchen torch.

found this on ebay the other day
382195637834
and asked if it contained solder as I've never used anything but soft multicore on a roll and separate flux, or silver solder.

their helpful answer came back...…."

You probably need Carr's solder paint:

Prices vary so shop around.
Very useful stuff!

the Ebay item you've posted looks very much like flux paste and doesn't contain solder.  The price alone would preclude the solder.  I recently bought some of this and have been very happy with the results,
Ebay item number: 162706186837
it's more expensive but should last for ages.

Neil,
It depends if you want paint or paste. I find the paint very useful for things like railings where you literally just paint the joint and heat it. Also useful for soldering two thicknesses of metal together, i.e. one tube inside another or two flat pieces.
I've not tried the past which I assume is thicker.

the only thing I will use this for, Colin is to solder the thin [possibly 12 gauge] brass etching set of the lifebuoy holders for the stern of the Speedline Shannon I'm building, so really brush on would be preferable to paste. so will have a look at the Carrs that you recommended.

It is easy to use and  needs very little if any clean up afterwards. Used it on my Brenda railings.

Scrolling down the page of somebody else selling the same thing as far as the buyers comments bit, its a little tub of flux paste.
Sometimes the comments explain more about the product than the seller, although sometimes they explain more about the buyer...
