Sadolin is a very thick paint which may not be suitable for applying balsa. The paint is designed for applying to hard woods I would think you may have a problem when putting on balsa. But before you right off the idea golden rule try it on a test piece.

I used it on my shed. Comes in a range of colours and finishes. I used a satin. Waterproof and is absorbed into the wood, pine in my case, and needed two coats. Not tried on balsa but I suspect it would soak in with the first coat and produce the final finish with the second coat. Not cheap so unless you have some already a bit costly to try. It's very resilient and shows no sign of fading after two years on my shed. I will try some on a piece of balsa when time permits and post the result.

Hi Martin
The spirit based versions can be removed before they dry with white spirit. The surface should be sanded and de-greased with methylated spirits before application. It is a two part process with 24hrs between coats.
I suggest you look at www.sadolin.co.uk/ and see their helpful videos. I noticed they also supply tester pots so this may be ideal for model use.
