Title: Kriegsfischkutter (KFK) German fishing boat conversation to war machine
Post by: John55 on October 20, 2018, 10:11:53 am
Hi, everyone, I am new to the forum and this is post no1 I was mad keen on model aircraft. I have now seen the errors of my ways and boats are my models of choice.  Rc of course. I have been a full size boatbuilder for 20 years at Hunton Powerboats.  I am now retired and as far as I'm aware...so have Hunton. Anyway this subject is when I receive the kit of a Kriegsfischkutter (KFK) is how do members of the forum feel about the German Navy flag being displayed on a model in this country.

Hi John,
Welcome to the forum - I don't think you will find displaying the German flag on a model an issue

Hi John

Welcome to the forum, just remember that we are all here for you so ask as many questions as you like.

Not an issue in the U,K but could be in some parts of the E.U.

Thanks. I will raise the flag and not be concerned,  after all its historic. The model is from Modellbau Wikinger in Germany .

as a learned man once said."if we don't learn from history and our mistakes we are destined to repeat them"

as said previously there is no problem in flying the Swastika in this country on a scale model, it is what it represents to others that one cannot foresee.

Hi John welcome the flag is ok here just don/t show it in Germany as it is illegal all the aircraft at the Dortmund show have a wrapper around the tail to hide the swastika  Bill...

At the Modebaulive 2018 i Bad Bramsted, there were several Kriegsfischkutter based on the Graupner Elke kit, the swastika were cut out of the flags, see the photo
Personally I don't have an issue with the swastika when it is used for historical correct displays like model boats, but it is still a very sensitive subject for many Germans.  And I'm not sure that you're are allowed to use it for historically correct displays in Germany.

Preserved WWII aircraft in museums have now been allowed to use the swastika on their tails as this is the correct historical markings.

I personally don't have issue ***moderated***
It was covered on here by David Jack, who has an extensive collection of ww2 models both Allied and German
and somebody complained about him/club to the council for one of the models flying the Swastika.

If it was my decision fly the correct flag!

Welcome to the forum John! I look forward to your conversion and build. I apologise if you said the scale you will build her to, and I ask again, but what scale are you building her to? You are probably aware of the 1:35th scale military model industry with the likes of Tamiya, Italeri and others, many of whom make kits of the common weapons you would find on KFK's and there are often drawings to be found of those that are not! Though newer kits can be quite expensive, you can always find older kits or second hand kits on Ebay saving you money for power plants and controls etc. I recall Dragon Models make a set with an AAMG and crew that might look good on the bridge!

Saw this flag whilst watching this great video of an event in Germany

Looks like the swastika is missing - interesting in the context of the previous postings

I can understand the reasoning behind it.
The New Germany does not want to see it flown.
However, it is part of History and there are much
more actions against Humanity glossed over.

That video is from the Bad Bramsted Modelbau Live 2018, where my posted picture is also from. All the Kriegsmarine flags were cut as shown and It's a great way to spend a weekend.
