Windows Media Player in Windows 10. To find WMP, click Start and type: media player and select it from the results at the top. Alternately, you can right-click the Start button to bring up the hidden quick access menu and choose Run or use the keyboard shortcut Windows Key+R. Then type: wmplayer.exe and hit Enter

VLC - https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.en-GB.html
VLC can play almost any media file.... even wet tea bags! O0

It should have Windows media player as standard.
If you go to the bottom left of the screen, where it says 'Type here to search', and type in 'media' it should come up.
Personally I use VLC media player, direct from source https://www.videolan.org/vlc (https://www.videolan.org/vlc) it should not have any malware attached. It asks for a donation of 4 Euro, but this is not essential.

I've used VLC for years, both laptop, desktop and tablet. wonderful piece of freeware, especially in a world where you never seem to get anything for free.

Yes vlc for me too, no messing about with missing codecs, it just works. Easy to cast to the TV too.
