Being a car nut (as well as a railway, boat and aeroplane nut....) I always buy the Christmas issue of Autocar Magazine because of their sometimes outlandish road tests in that issue. In recent years they've tested the Flying Scotsman locomotive, a Challenger tank and an RAF Tornado fighter etc. etc.
This year's test will be of special interest here as they've done an RNLI Shannon Class lifeboat. :-))
Highlight figures include 1282 bhp from the engines, a 0-37 mph acceleration time of 35.5 secs, a 37-0 mph braking time of 9.5 secs and a 2740 litre fuel tank!
The dual control consoles, one upper and one lower, would look more in place in an Airbus A380 airliner, the Shannon even having a single lever steering control at the lower level! ;)
