Ahhh the good old days !

Go further back in time and there was an indoor pool where one actually sailed models !

Plus indoor flying - superbly detailed scale rubber powered free flight aircraft
taking off from the hall floor, executing perfect landings to the applause of the watching crowds,
giant r/c airships bumping into the rafters etc,
and best of all - controline i.c. diesel powered aircraft racing around with the heady waft of Ether filling the hall.

Guessing 'Elth and Safety's put paid to the above - great shame, a great show sadly missed.

That was a different show. You're referring to the Model Engineering exhibition, which was also held in London, and also sometimes at Alexandra Palace, but its was organised by a different publisher.

This show is still running, but it's diminished over earlier years.

The problem with the Alexandra Palace show, for me, is that is at the top of a very steep hill, on the same time as the snooker tournament.  No, there are no courtesy buses as the blub states.  With the snooker on the car parks half way down are solid full so the nearest legal parking is almost two miles away.
I have major problems with my legs on ultra steep hills. Last time I went it took an hour and a half to scale, climbing a few steps at a time.  Probably the most inaccessible show on the calendar.   >:-o

Yes Bob, it isn't the easiest place to get to despite being close to central London.

The original MEX seems to be defunct now. It was last held at Brooklands Museum in Weybridge in 2016. I was a Marine Competition Judge for over 30 years.

The show I'd mentioned I think was held at Olympia ?  many, many years ago.

I agree, I went to the recent Ally Pally show (last ME I went to was about 1995/6 at Olympia) and couldn't find the courtesy bus from the tube so had to walk, and I have had a rather dodgy left foot since it got rather mangled in a motorcycle accident three years ago. I did, however, manage to locate the bus for the return journey, which was lucky as I don't think I could have managed it on foot.

The original MEX was held in various places including Seymour Hall, Wembley Conference Centre, Olympia, Alexandra Palace, Ascot Racecourse, Sandown Park and Brooklands Museum.

The Wembley events were probably the best overall.

I think the last MEX at Wembley was in 1988. Conference centre was demolished several years ago.
