Good Morning,
Got a few days in Budapest in June and smurfed for maritime museums, as you do, but what comes up is a bit disconnected. Any clarification would be much appreciated!

Never come across a naval museum there in several visits, but there is a very good transport museum, which should be rebuilt and open again by now - I never got to see it as it was closed for a very long time!
-
Thanks Tobyker, that's what's the mystery because there is one on google, including an old river monitor outside the parliament building and a single review BUT the website doesn't respond etc.
Don't mind being the pathfinder but if someone knows different! :-))

I never saw a monitor outside the parliament building!

Tony
Are you thinking of SMS Leitha? The oldest Austrian-Hungarian ship a float. She is next to the Parliamentary building in Budapest.
-
Hi Nick,
She's supposed to be there and there's supposed to be another, the Maritime Museum and Library a short way away but...... {:-{
-
The other one may have been the former SMS Bodrog now named Sava but according to Wikipedia she was moved to Belgrade in 2014 after massive restoration work.
-
Not if you google Naval Museums Budapest because the map shows it in the dry and if you check the images it's definitely a museum. It's even got a 5* review from a couple of guides??????????????????????????????????????? %%
I'm going to have to learn Hungarian!

Ahh, I see now. Lajta Monitor. She’s also called SMS Leitha. It’s the same gunboat/monitor by sounds of things but they call it the Lajta Monitor Museum.
-
No, not the monitor. If you check the google map once you've googled Naval Museums Budapest there are 2 locations shown. The westerly one is on the river and that's the Laika but there is another one about 1k east of there and its marked up as the Naval Museum, Archives and Library.
-
I’ve found it now, it’s weird it didn’t appear on my last searches until I typed in the exact words naval museum library archives Budapest.
I’ve never been to Budapest but if it’s that close to the Lajta monitor museum it might be worth a quick walk in that direction to see if it’s there.

That's the mystery Nick!I'm certainly going to trot along there and I'll report back on anything I find.Good Luck for the future and I'll see you at Wickstead.Tony
