Hi all I am a great fan of the Radio4 programme More or Less.  I felt I had to pass on this little mathematics gem.

             X% of Y is the same as Y% of X

Well it is true!  E.G.  If you want 4 % of 75 it is the same as 75 % of 4 answer 3.

If you write out longhand the calculation which is 4 over 100 times 75 it is the same as 75 over 100 times 4.  I.E. 4 x 75 is the same as 75 x 4.  It is easier to work out what 3/4 of 4 is rather than 4/100 of 75.


It came as a surprise to the Cambridge Professor of Maths as well.
