That looks great, both of them. Needs specs of the big one, radio or 1:1 scale human?

Hi, it is human sized, with my legs going either side of the keel box. Keel is removable but weighs 108lbs. I scaled up the keel weights from the plan and made a plug from blue foam covered with leg of tights and pva till smooth, this was pushed into sand and molten lead poured in. Scary stuff, I made 4 bulbs as my friend said he was going to build one as well, it never happened and he sold the lead for scrap. The half bulbs weighed 50lbs each. In hindsight, they could have been a good bit lighter than that but I wanted it to be as close as possible to the model.

I forgot to say that it is 7ft 9in long. And that I built the whole thing, apart from lead work, in my attic. It would convert to rc quite easy if anyone is interested in buying it for rc purposes.

Hello Andy you are not the first person to scale up a Vic Smeed plan for full size use. Vic told me that an American scaled up one of his aircraft for its builder to fly. He said it flew very well and was very stable and easy to fly. He used an air coolled VW flat 4 engine and flew the aircraft for some time.
Apparently he landed at an airfield and someone was curious as to what the aircraft was, the upshot was that he was grounded as it did not have an airworthyness certificate. The engine was removed, I do not know what happened after that.

After sailing the yacht for the first time, I had loaded it onto my trailer and a guy asked if it was radio controlled, I said no, I have just been out in it. He looked at me as if he didnt believe me. I have more photos of it and some of my other boats on the your builds section of mayhem, my name is andy mcgarrity, and am on the first page of the section.

We only have one lake in scotland, and its not this one, its loch lomond. Sailing was fun, 18 people turned up to watch me sail, most left as soon as they realised I wasnt going to sink! I did feel a bit vulnerable as a large motor cruiser came towards me, when there was no wind. I did get enough of a gust to move out the way in time but still quite scary.

The cruiser should have given way to you, didn't he know about steam giving way to sail?

Lying in my 7 foot boat, I wasnt sure if he had even seen me. Afterwards I did consider replacing the lead on the keel with a motor so I would be able to motor out of the way of any traffic in future. As it turned out, I built my Viper speedboat instead, now I could outrun bigger boats, and take a passenger as well. I did like the sailing though, moving soundlessly through the water was really nice, I could hear water lapping against the hull and birds singing. It was moving at a decent rate through the water as well.

I had a minimax hydro that I built and ran on loch lomond, it had quite a low front on it, about 3 or 4 inches above water level. It scooped waves a bit easy and on a few occasions it scooped about a fish tanks worth straight into my face, long before any ice bucket challenge nonsense. I admire your swmbo's bravery! Even in August the water is still bl*@#y freezing.
