Title: SS Shengking 1/96 scale model information

Hi everyone


A quick question regarding the fore mentioned ship above. I bought it off eBay a little while back and I thought it was a wooden hull but when it arrived much to my surprise it’s a GRP hull. I will say that it didn’t say it was either just my interpretation of the pictures provided!
Plans that came with it are by J Pottinger and are very good quality showing some great detail. Whilst many of you will be saying why I bought it being a civvie boat but I’ve done some research in to the real Shengking and she was commandeered by the RAF during WW2! So I’ve got a connection!


My question is: did anyone make a GRP hull of the SS Shengking in 1/96 scale? I don’t want to upset any true scratch builder of GRP hulls but it’s a bit too good unless someone knew what they were doing for it not be of manufactured origin. I can’t find any reference to a hull being available... any ideas? :-))

I am going to throw a hat at ABCO, who moved the moulds onto Models by Design, who don't list it anymore...Well, that's what I think happened anyway!!

You are correct, just had a nice chat with Stan. The moulds are now held by Mountfleet Models, and were roughly produced at the same time as the Clan Ross hull.
