Title: My latest boat
Post by: Unsinkable 2 on July 22, 2019, 11:31:08 pm
Well it's not quite a model but it's not much bigger.... Here's what I've been busy with. Amongst other things.

Oh and it's pedal powered so no smelly exhaust fumes

Well, that looks like it could be fun to use - perhaps the operators of Swan/Duck pedalos could follow your example.
Could also be used  as a rescue boat for recovery of broken down models.
Has she been in the water yet?

Regards,
Ray.

Nice build - interested to see how the pedal arrangement works please?

Hi Ray, yes Its been in the sea five times. The last time we were out for about an hour and a half.
I hook the trailer on the back of my bike to get it to the water. I really enjoy pedalling it around the bay. U2

Mr zippy, I cut a 12mm bar into sections (all VERY carefully planned) then fed bearings and the sprocket onto the bar before welding it together. Then I made wooden sandwich pedals and lined them with grease. I know that I am unable to change anything without sawing the bar but I thought that the number of hours it will be pedalling in a lifetime will not be enough to destroy the bearings if I keep them oiled.

beautifully crafted and well thought out, do the pedals drive a screw or some sort of paddle wheel, dose look fun though.
Joe.

Radio Joe, hi there, wow it's been a long time since I was here but that's because Ive been busy with a new project.

My boat is pedals that drive a chain that turn an old grinder gear cogs that turns a shaft that drives a propeller. It's actually very easy to pedal and I could have probably given it a bit more had I known. But as it is it's fine an can easily be pedalled even by one kid on his own (if ever the situation arose)

One pedal rotation turns the propeller 9 times. It travels at about walking speed which is all I need!

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. UM

As I said very well thought out and a prop is more efficient than a paddle wheel, nice one.

Hi, I was wondering what length your boat is?

It looks about the same size as my Viper mini speedboat. It takes a 10hp outboard tho.
