Title: Microcosm Hit and Miss Engine

Hi I have noticed a vertical and a horizontal type desk top stationary engine model on ebay.
These are marketed by Micrososm in China. These are medium priced models but they look well built.
I think the piston ring is some sort of rubber band.
My question is is this the same company that supply the steam engines that are often discussed on the forum?
From memory is this a product from the same engineer who I think is called Gin .Does any body have experience of one of these engines? Personally my leaning is towards the horizontal version, but the vertical one has a nice heat exchanger .

Hi there - Microcosm has had quite a lot of posts on this forum.  If you go to the top of the page and click on the word "search" the one next to "profile" and type in microcosm you will see loads of posts that will help you  :-))


They do get mixed reviews but I would say that the overall opinion is quite a good one of Gin's products

It's Jin isn't it? Must be same person. Quick eBay search shows Jin and all the engines. I think Raphael (French guy) sorry about spellings, rhavane or something speaks quite well of them so far.


He should see this at some point.

Rich is right, I am the French Raphaël, alias rhavrane who can confirm that Jin is Microcosm and that I have several of his steam machines plus accessories and his last vertical Hit & Miss M91.

Thank you and others for the reply. I have since read lots about the M90 and M91 engines. The vertical M91 really appeals to me and there are quite a few running out there successfully it looks a complete package but you are able to strip it easily to look at o ring etc. I can't make an engine but I do like to tinker with them. I will order one from Jin am I right in thinking there are no import duty on items from China unlike USA
