Following a recommendation from a well-known lifeboat modeller, I've recently started to use double-sided tape - specifically the type sold as Stix2Anything. It does!

Canopy Glue is what everyone uses but also ordinary PVA will do the job as well

Hi Johnsons Clear a Acrylic floor polish is good to a bottle is a few pounds and will out last you even cover scratches and makes plastic, acrylic windows look more like Glass.

....but the long-term waterproof or moisture-proof is still in question sometimes if it's going to be wetted often or for long.
...you can also use clear varnish if the part suits. There's lots of ways depending how you're doing it and if you're detailing inside and out etc.

As long as you use the Waterproof PVA it will be ok in water
