Title: Electric Set up for a large Model.
Post by: TheLongBuild on September 24, 2019, 06:43:17 pm

Hi, the pictures show a very home made control system , I know what it did or at least was supposed to do but thought I would put it up here to see if anyone can guess. Part of this was replaced with a more modern system.. :}

And a Brucie bonus point if you can tell me the model !! %% %%

Looking at the microswitches worked by the cam on the rudder servo, guessing that there was an arrangement to reverse the inboard motor on full rudder to improve manoevering.  I seem to recall a magazine article doing something like this a lot of years ago.  The other grey panel could be on-off-reverse switching for two motors?
Impressive bit of electro-mechanical engineering of its time there.  Probably two ESCs and a mixer nowadays.

Hi
Yes more or less, unfortunately never seen it working but from what I was told it basically made turning the Bismark a lot easier
by controlling the motors when the rudder turned Port or Starboard .
The section with the cut out actually housed a large Flash unit from a camera which by the use of small mirrors simulated I assume explosions on the ship.
She has now been fitted out with more modern equipment but I kept the old electrics, one day I might try to set it up working.
