Title: Tools?
Post by: ferny on September 28, 2019, 10:27:34 pm
I will be building the slipway Tamar in a few months time. I have a fairly comprehensive modelling tool kit have that I collected over the years. Are there any tools in particular you good people would recommend?

Hi Ferny
This is probably the number one tool I use most. Smooth variable speed and quiet.

Best ever tool to find when you are modelling is PATIENCE!!  {-) {-) {-)

Without it you can get nowhere very fast and then lose the will to carry on and complete the boat.

Also when in doubt about how the kit should build ring Jackie at Model Slipway. They will soon sort out your problem.

or the cheaper version when LIDL have them available (exactly the same rebranded)

Depends what you've got already?

Tools I use the most and find indispensable are PermaGrit blocks and files and my Record scroll saw. Don't use that often but my set of forstner bits make for neat and splinter free holes. And lots and lots of clamps!! And some mini-squares.

For me it has to be the digital calliper.  Especially when you are working in metric with millimetres, even though my sight is pretty good for an octogenarian counting mm on a ruler is a bummer. Good thing is that they are cheap and last forever

The no.1 priority, if you don't already have it, is good quality lighting - especially now, with the dark nights drawing in  O0 .
