This is a new tug, delivered from Spain this spring, to the tug company Lulea Bogser up in northernmost part of Sweden. She is currently at a shipyard in Stockholm where I spotted her. She is a hybrid tug, diesel electric with batteries to take her in and out of the harbour. Ice breaking tug built to assist iron ore bulkers in Port of Lulea. I have met her captain once and am very keen on trying to see if I can make a visit onboard..
Would make a nice model!
All the best.

Today the nice captain let me and some colleagues onboard to see this lovely tug and he and the chief engineer gave us a tour. Both forward and aft winches are inside the deck house to be protected from the ice and snow.
They told us that so far the hybrid propulsion has been a great success. During development they aimed for being able to move to and from assistance by battery power, but it turned out that they can do a full assist on batteries. And when I saw the batteries themselves I was truly amazed, they are tiny!
They have the option to take on more batteries later if they want to improve capacity. They can choose from a variety of power options from two diesels or only electric motors, electric motors being a generator when diesel is running. The firefighting pump was also impressive.

Yes she had that "new car scent" inside :-))
Another cool thing was that there was a camera crew onboard, and they were not swedish but came from far far away... %)
