Title: Advice/suggestions on equipment purchases
Post by: mbm999 on November 12, 2019, 07:40:39 pm
Hi,
I've decided to buy an Aeronaut Diva for my first venture into model boat building.
I'm not after a blisteringly fast boat but something which has a good turn of speed.
I was thinking of going brushless so i'd welcome suggestions of motor size, esc, prop and batteries (maybe lipo?).
I'm also going to buy a new 2.4G radio set (something like a FlySky or Turnigy?) so, any suggestions welcome.

I'm sure i'll have lots of further questions about the build when i get to it but feel free to offer ANY advice whilst
i'm gathering my shopping list together.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark.

My Diva is very nippy on a 2830 1100Kv outrunner and 3S Lipo.. Prop. is 35mm. two bladed and a 30A ESC is more than sufficient as my Turnigy motor is only drawing a max. of 21A

Hope this helps but if you search "Aeronaut Diva" on this forum you will find a complete build log for this model.

Hi

After a few purchases, I ended up buying Flysky FS-6iX. Works great with my models, electric powered boats and yachts.

The Absima and Radiolink systems I bought, and returned, had problems with the ESC and servos on the throttle sticks!

The shop wasn’t to surprised by the problems with the throttle sticks which did surprise me but swapped then did a full refund!

Ended up buying the Flysky on eBay at a great price and bought a few extra receivers really cheaply via eBay.

Hi 999

The Turnigy IA6 and the Flysky I6 are the same unit with differ name.
I have both and Banggood sell the self centring throttle kit and differ coloured knobs and switch covers.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies so far.
I thought this was going to be easy but the number of options is overwhelming!

I found this on Banggood.com but which mode do i need and which receiver (it mentions 3 i think)?
Is this a good website to use or are there better ones in the UK?
Do I need to order the self centering throttle kit separately?
Where do you get compatible servos from?
https://www.banggood.com/Flysky-FS-i6X-2_4GHz-10CH-AFHDS-2A-RC-Transmitter-With-X6B-i-BUS-Receiver-p-1090406.html?ID=42482530817&cur_warehouse=CN

Sorry for all the questions (and that's before i look at the motors/esc).
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark

That is what I bought! But I used a seller on eBay, China based but with product in a UK Warehouse, you get fast delivery that way and no surprise added UK duty or VAT! Have a look at eBay item number 292803009174, just copy and paste into the eBay search box.

It comes with one transmitter and one FS-iA6B Receiver, make sure you get this receiver not the ibus type if you want a simple connect up with normal servos. Any servo is compatible, I bought 4 Futaba 3003 servos and 4 ESC’s (Electronic  Speed Controller) for my brushed electric motors. I also bought 2 more FS-iA6B  receivers so I don’t have to keep swapping kit from one boat to another. Though I could have saved a few pounds more by buying the 3 channel version, but I’d rather have 6 channels just in case I need them sometime.

I use Lefthand throttle but do not use a self centring kit as I prefer to be able to set the speed and be able to leave it there, also when using it for the yachts I can move it to set the sails and leave it set. However if I used it on just say a car or electric powered boat I might prefer to have it self centre, centre being ‘off’ move the stick ‘up’ to go forwards and ‘down’ to reverse. But that’s all just personal choice.

Hope that helps a bit, I was once told “the only stupid question was the one not asked” ;) .

A simple 4-6 channel Futaba is all you need. Reasonably priced, reliable, excellent reputation and no problem with spare parts. You pays your money and takes you choice !

Yikes, those Futaba sets are not the cheapest if you want to control more than one boat.
Hmm, but then i am slightly cautious of the returns issues when dealing with far off places.

Appreciate the input,
Mark
