Title: HMS Cornwall 1/96
Post by: ojays on January 30, 2020, 10:01:21 pm

Last year I managed to have a winning bid on an E-Bay auction.
This was for an unfinished build of a Sirmar hulled HMS Cornwall.
The builder had done a great job, but after 20 years of working on it he got fed up
He had built the superstructure out of plasticard and made a good job of it, but it lacked detail.
Lots of the railings were damaged or missing, and finer detailing hadn't been done.
This where I came in.

These first few photo's are as it was when I collected it.

Looks quite nice actually - was it built for R/C or static display only?

Regards,
Ray.

Great stuff. Should be good for access to the running gear  :-)

Unfortunately he sealed the motor's and couplings in under the hanger.
I did attempt to razor saw the hanger to gain access, however even with a one inch deep saw I couldn't cut all the way through.
I will have to live with it unless some thing drastic happens with the drivetrain.
The helideck is removable to gain access to the rudders/servo, so no problems with that.

Excellent example of that class of Frigate. I hope to attempt one myself one day. I have HMS Brave in mind.

Added a few crew members dotted about here and there.
A few minor touch ups and then she's ready for the lake.
As quite a lot has been added topside since I bought her, will need some ballast checks before letting her loose.

Ooh, that looks like an excellent purchase. It looks pretty darn tidy and neatly built. I am not surprised about the railings but then they always will be fragile  :((

I would hope that as he made such a good job of the model generally, he was as thorough with setting the innards up, so giving you some duration of sailing before having to access it.
