Stuck at home all weekend, so I thought I'd have a go at at this card TID kit.

Good start.... followed by a grinding halt.... instructions are all in Polish!

After faffing about with OCR, Google Translate & Yandex for a couple of hours, I managed to translate them into ... Chinglish!
The instructions are next to useless and don't tie up to the diagrams and there seems to be huge chunks missing or the instructions & diagrams are done by two different people entirely!

Anyway, a couple of bottles of superglue and a few hours later I got the hull frames glued together...

OK, lost again!

It seems there are two layers for the hull 'plating', an inner / under layer ( Light grey on the hull frame ) and an over / out layer that's colour / 'paint' layer. ( dark pieces at he top ) ... does that sound about right for a card / paper model?

Also, what is all the 'pinking' for?

The instructions translate as:
See also Hatch aft cz.1m + n. Keel plating cz.3 top up cz. 3a, similarly, the sides of the cz.4L and P, 4AL - P and 4bli P. We glue them to the skeleton, then stick them to the cz. 5P and L, merged with cz.5aL and 5aP [Figure 4]. Mount a stand under model, with cz.60 and 60A [Figure 2]. We can install as two separate elements: cz. 6L and P + 6AL and P. 6bl and P + 6cl and P. Po they are connected to the hull by straps of cz.6d L and P + 6eL and P.

Is the "pinking" on a bend/join line & effectively glue tabs?
Title: Re: Card TID Tug
Post by: Howard on March 25, 2020, 07:40:12 pm
Looks like a line of fold over tabs to glue another to as to glue the side pace to the bottom but looks like if you was careful you could use pinking scissors'

The bottom plate doesn't sit flat... would it be OK to put a slits down the middle and glue it down?

Make sure you have a bottle of nail varnish remover handy when you're working with CA a lot, just in case (just make sure it contains acetone).  In any case, warm water and not panicking helps otherwise if things you don't want on your own apendages get stuck.

I've started to use micro tip applicators with thin CA.  They're cheap enough for a pack.  It helps place a dot much, much better.  Luckily they all seem to have standardised on CA bottle tip size because the applicators seem to fit all the bottles I have from all sorts of places so far.

Keep with the build, it's intersting to watch.

Cheers,

Rich

The model railway guys like this stuff for card buildings -I have a tub somewhere, it doesn't seem much different from PVA to me.  Roket Card Glue from Deluxe is a bit different -it's a bit like CA and sticks really quick.  Bit strange stuff.

Hi Martin,
Any old PVA or Aliphatic 'white glue' kicking around that's going thick? will be similar to above,
or leave the bottle top off a while to thicken it -
white glue will allow time to position parts and none of the white staining soaking through the card, that can happen with cyno.

Finger pressure will transmit heat through card and part set white glue in moments,
or because this is more akin to aeromodelling - get the pins out !
my recent revelation - good old BluTack for positioning, this has taken over from pins, clamps and jigs etc wonderful stuff.

... funnily enough, I've ordered some Neodymium magnets to help with the clamping!

...good, outside the box thinking Batman, they would work well, small flat lead weights can also be useful !
PVA poured in a dish and left while to evaporate and thicken should work a treat depending on how thick/absorbant your card is,
its too 'wet'? straight out of the bottle.
50 years ago (pre cyno) it was the only glue available in the commercial art world for assembling mock up card packaging etc,
then along came Spraymount and changed the game !  would like a £ for every can of that I've inhailed over the years !!

I'll be joining you on the card modeling front before long, the way things are going -
had no idea of the wide range of model subjects available in card kits, stunning projects to build.
